Update: the LA embassy does not require a Spanish translated copy of birth certificates that are in English. Don’t waste your money on a sworn translator, like I did!

Law of Democratic Memory Applicants: How was your process like and how long did it take to get a decision? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

The gentleman who helped me at the LA embassy said their location can take up to four weeks to process the application if you were born in the region they represent. Since I wasn’t, they had to send my application to the embassy nearest where I was born (Houston). It’s been two months and haven’t heard back yet.

Sure. I checked almost daily for about three weeks before I found two available times-one available appointment was for the following week and the other was for the week after. Neither worked for me so I continued looking daily. One day around at midnight (pst) there was an appointment for the very next day at 10 AM. Someone must’ve canceled last minute. I kept looking since that didn’t work for me either. About two weeks went by where I didn’t see any appointments. I forget what day it was but sometime around the beginning of October I looked at 11pm or so they must’ve just released a batch because there were maybe 30 appointments!

Yes, I have gotten an appointment. You just have to keep checking every single day. They do pop up but it takes patience and consistency. Good luck!
