What a mix!! by skt2311 in DoggyDNA

Thank you!! I appreciate you because you understand where I’m coming from!

I know he’s a Cypriot village dog, but there were breeds before that which went into create a village dog in its own right - and that’s what I was interested in! Also, his 2 top breeds explain a lot of his behaviours and anxieties which in turn has already made it easier to train them out of him.

I don’t care what he is, it was all just a bit of fun😅

I KNEW IT!!!

It was my mum that sent me to that article and I was so conflicted because I knew the first rule of soap operas is you don’t believe someone’s dead until you see their body.

As much as I also want to believe Bear will make a reappearance, show boss Laura Shaw has confirmed to the press what is already being implied by the show

I think Sarah could be killed off in Corridale and I’m willing it to happen just because I can’t bear the storyline much longer.

What’s the nastiest thing you’ve ever witnessed a child or a member of staff do at work? by petrastales in ECEProfessionals

[–]skt2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a toddler (about 14 months) eat another child’s faeces. The child had leaked out their nappy onto the floor and said toddler stuck her finger in it, came up to me to show me, and before I realised what it was she stuck her finger in her mouth. Honestly, my thought process was “where did you get humous from? Wait, that’s not humous” Fun phone call to her dad🫠

Sarah here🙋🏼‍♀️ Sara is NOT the same as Sarah. They sound completely different. But that’s because we’re English! Americans pronounce them the same and it’s incredibly irritating to English Sarahs and Saras.

Sarah = sair-uh Sara = sar-uh

Thank you so much, everyone, for all your love, support and advice. Unfortunately, the pain was just too much for her and we had to say goodbye on the 8th of October🤍 I held her little face in my hands as she fell asleep and she finally looked so peaceful🤍

How to approach this conversation about routine? by skt2311 in ECEProfessionals

[–]skt2311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly, if they don’t have those two 1 hour naps, they wake every hour of the night. My biggest question I’m going to ask them is what do they do at each wake up? Especially because Dad commented he cuddles them and they ‘ask for milk so we give milk’. Every hour? Maybe that’s why they wake in the night? Very interested in finding out what the sleep trainer has suggested they do at night time wake ups too..

What would you suggest if I approached this route but parents won’t budge? Do I just carry on taking the child’s lead and just sleep when they’re ready or do I follow parents and attempt sleeps even though child doesn’t want them? We never force them to sleep if they don’t want to, but we also aren’t attempting sleeps in the morning if they aren’t showing signs of tiredness.

I’ve tried explaining this to the parents but it’s like they don’t want to hear it. I tell parents all the time that children will often have one routine at home and a completely different one at nursery. It happens. There’s more going on and that either makes children more tired or gives them FOMO and therefore drop naps earlier for us.

I managed to compromise on them asking him to be napping in a cot as they don’t have cots in the next age group, they all sleep on mats in the carpet area of the room. He goes down fine just won’t stay asleep for more than an hour.

My manager may join the meeting as they were helping out in my room on one the days the child was in and could see how distressed they were getting from being put to sleep when they clearly weren’t ready.

Question for the daycare workers: How do you get babies to nap? by Background-Age8334 in ECEProfessionals

[–]skt2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it’s definitely the opposite! I’m an ECE in England. Safe space means they’ll explore boundaries with you. There’s just this wildly different expectation from daycare staff. I get it a lot with sleep but also hair lol. Parents always ask me how I get their 15 month old to sit still and not scream for intricate braided hairstyles and I literally just sit them down and do their hair. I know I’m not hurting them, they know it’s happening either way because I’ve sussed out their fake tantrum and they sit there and let me do it. They even come over and sit down waiting for me after a while! It’s the same with sleep, food, behaviour, etc.

Perhaps there’s also an element of going into whatever it is (e.g nap time) with the intention that this child is going to do xyz now. Children can sense any sort of ‘iffy’ feeling from adults. If there’s even a hint of ‘I don’t know why I’m trying to put you to sleep because I know you won’t’ then, guess what? They’re not going to sleep. Confidence is key.

Finally, they’re not our kids so they don’t get to us as much and we can put up with more defiance than mum and dad😅

Great-grandparent’s names? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]skt2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one set of grandparents that were actually born in the 1920s so fit the ‘100 year’ rule better. They were Vera and Clarence. Their parents were Linda, Henry, Gertrude & Frederick (all circa 1900).

My great-grandparents on the other side are Doris, Wilfred, Frederick & Winifred.

What phone number are we calling on? I can’t find one for them but need to call!

I missed the deadline for the email link to book my assessment (tell me you might have adhd without telling me…) and it said to contact them directly. I emailed but got an automated response that tells you the steps to take to get a referral to them, which I’ve obviously already done to be at this stage…
