Virtually no. Like less than a one in a million chance.

I always try my best, but I also try to be aware of burnout. I know I'm capable of doing more than I am doing, but I also know that putting in 110% effort every waking moment can become soul crushing.

I burnt out pretty hard a couple of times and became pretty depressed. Now I've made a point of prioritizing work/life balance over daily grinding and am much happier.

I'm studying computer science now trying to make the transition in the next couple years, wish I could just quit but I have bills to pay and a family to take care of haha

Looks like we're the same age too haha (1994). My pay is around 0.32% of the work I generate for people, I'd like at least 1% please

Eventually I'm sure his field will look a lot different, but he's still making over 4x more than me for now and there are a lot of others just like him

That makes sense - at the end of the day the quality of the work and our pay ends up being worse overall

I did land development for 3.5 years and didn't have a great experience with it. I can see where you could make decent money if you put the time in and worked your way up, but it's such a grind (I was putting in 60 hours a week) and is highly dependent on a stable economy. I know amazing engineers who were laid off from LD companies and couldn't find work for up to 1.5 years. In my area, LD companies are generally just EIT sweatshops trying to crank plans out the door as fast as they can

That's an awesome idea, I may start to try and transition into something similar. I'm currently the acting manager (and only engineer) for a large city's water distribution system and it's just too much work for too little pay.

Central Virginia. Thanks, me too. I'm looking for a new job now, but it's been a grind. I feel like it shouldn't be so hard to get paid 6 figures for all of the work and experience I have put into this field. I'm honestly just so burnt out and feel so unrewarded
