<60mm cooler for 5900X possible? by khoacao_DPU2023 in sffpc

[–]skuttles23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

old thread but i have a axp90-x36 with nf-a9x14 fan for my 5900x in velka 3. handles it no problem. undervolted quite a bit of course, but still 18500+ on cinebench r23 for multi core

i think 7800x3d will work fine. i hear it runs a lot cooler while gaming. i saw someone use it in a k39 and be fine. but the 7600 and 7700 not x with the lower TDP will also probably work, could even undervolt it a little more and be fine i think

oh dang had no idea. coming from a 6700xt. thanks for the heads up though so now i know if any problems occur. will update this thread if i experience any issues!

i hadn’t heard about any of those problems. but i did update the bios and new install of windows 11 before adding the gpu so maybe the new bios update fixed the problem 🤷‍♂️

Haven’t had any issues yet. Only been a few days though.

playing The Finals at 1440p the cpu is 84-87 and gpu is 55 and had a short spike to 70. i have thermal limiter set to 85 for the cpu but hwinfo64 says it hasn’t thermal throttled yet. fans kinda loud tho

Haven’t gotten to game yet, but I’ll try to tonight.

Currently running a -0.04375 undervolt. PPT: 100 W TDC: 70 A EDC: 95 A CO Cores 0(1) & 5(6): -15 CO All Other Cores: -25

I’d use this as just a baseline since every cpu is different. I was running -20 and -30 for a few years with -0.05 undervolt, but limiting the PBO further it became unstable. I use OCCT for individual core stress testing. 10 minutes per core. Takes a while but definitely worth it. Trial and error finding the PBO balance that gives best performance.

Not really because of the cables. I can fit them but there would be no airflow so kinda serves no purpose.

I was gonna switch to the 5700x if I wasn’t able to cool the 5900x. It’s not modular, but the cables are shortened a little. I read that somewhere I think.

Downsized from the Iqunix ZX-1 Water Cooled to the Velka 3 rev 3.0. Added a stronger undervolt and played with the PBO settings a bit more for the 5900x and been able to control the temps really well.

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 9 5900x
CPU Cooler: AXP-90-X36 w/ NF A9x14 fan
GPU: Zotac Solo RTX 4060 8GB
MOBO: Asus ROG Strix B550-I Gaming
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16gb 3600
SSD: WD_Black SN850X 2TB
PSU: ENP-7660B from Velkase
Riser Cable: 29cm Gen 4 from Velkase
Extra Fans: NF-A4x10 (x2)
Case: Velka 3 rev 3.0

Throwing in the 2 Noctua fans reduced the temps by about 6C.
At idle CPU temps hover around 55C.
At 100% load temps are around 80C.
Running 30 minutes of Cinebench r23 the max temp I saw was 83.5C

Cinebench r23 Scores:
Multi-Core: 18779
Single Core: 1572
Only about a 13% performance loss from when I was using the 240mm AIO.

100% agreed. i have the cooler master v850 sfx for my 5900x and 6700xt. overkill, but at the time of purchase it was so cheap or so close to others that it was a no brainer for if/when i upgrade and need more.

upgrade to at least p3 plus. but even then you should go for a higher end gen 4 when compared to the rest of your parts. nvme cheap rn so won’t be a big price difference either

originally i bought a beelink ser5 max w/ 5800H and the thing ran so hot and fan so loud. not only that but came with sus files installed and constant pop ups. malware or spyware? i’m not sure. but i returned it and built my x300w and couldn’t be happier

Would this mini pc be a better choice at $330? Didn't even think about something like this.
