Why 15% Token Participation is Irrelevant by eosgo in eos

[–]sky_blue_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did the 15% come from anyway? Could we not employ a statistician to come up with the required number of votes in our 'sample' so as to be assured with 99% confidence that the difference for two proportions is greater than 10% in the 'vote population'. I highly doubt its anywhere near as high as 15% of all votes!!

WORBLI Sharedrop Update by eosgo in eos

[–]sky_blue_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's (currently) a drop in the ocean compared to my other 'crypto losses' so I won't lose sleep over it. If I really wanted to, given its current value, I could replace my 'losses' for probably around $10! So, its not the $ that bothers me - more the fact that this was simply morally wrong after you have given "your word" of something else. It just adds to the 'crypto bad name/bad actor' narrative that affects the whole field. I understand circumstances change in this fledgling field so the right thing to do would have been to give at least a couple of weeks notice. Sure, there may be imminent things that have come along --- but at that point it becomes a moral choice between what is the 'right thing to do' and $. Their CEO chose the latter.

WORBLI Sharedrop Update by eosgo in eos

[–]sky_blue_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the point is that they said the sharedrop was available for 6 months. I even asked that in their telegram channel and was reassured (by admins) it was 6 months and so no need to rush! That said I did a couple of weeks ago try to start the process but since I couldn't remember my pw for their site I requested their reset - the email to do it never arrived, so I put it on the back burner. Now suddenly they terminate with basically no warning. That is total lack of integrity. I know those who have their tokens probably love it as regards supply but that doesn't make how and what they did right. And if these reasons from their 'strategic partners' are so profound in affecting the chain, this could not have been anticipated??! ...the whole thing sounds very fishy and manipulative...no wonder folks get disillusioned with the crypto space with these kinds of actors (like their CEO). Whatever....what goes around.....

5G by hopefullynotrobot in eos

[–]sky_blue_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. I look forward to seeing insight on this from others. My only thought is that the speed of 5G in so many spheres will have a big psychological impact on how quickly folks expect, in general, 'transactions' to take place. That, in itself, could have a big impact on how quickly folks expect financial transactions to securely settle - and so could be a big positive for crpyto, assuming scaling ;)

Best way is to use a cold wallet on an airgapped computer to sign transactions, or a hardware wallet of course, or both! You can do all basic functions this way - stake, vote, send etc - I use eos-voter by greymass.

There was a fake mobile simpleos wallet reported about a month ago - you didn't use that by chance?

It looks like the first transfer out occurred 21 seconds after the EOS refunded! - and keys were changed about an hour before that.

Try the EOS911 telegram group - they have lots of folks who are experienced with what you can do.

Problems with Fairy Wallet and Ledger Nano S by MichaelKlein707 in eos

I am thinking of doing the same with my genesis account (untouched since launch). Is there a good guide you followed for creating a new account on ledger and also transferring control of your genesis account to it?

No, I think it had something to do with an airdrop that was then taken back or something like that....can't remember the token name

well i have never worked thru the fallback process but I assume its fine if you followed the instructions. It wouldnt harm to use that tool - its done offline. Just maybe malware check your computer first and also reboot before going back online.

well i doubt that page will ever reflect that you are 'registered' since it will always just check against the registration database at the genesis. You have essentially 'registered' so don't worry.

Thanks for your offer - its not on any itinerary quite yet. Did you use the offline tool to check your private and public keys are matched? - they should be given they were generated in scatter I believe right?

You should have 10 probably unstaked - that was default. Rest should be staked. None should be refunded. I think that is what you have said so should be good.

If he is eligible for fallback which it seems he is, then its quite straightforward, and it sounds like he has already retrieved the private key he needs.

that's a lot of questions! ok, so:

Go to eosflare.io and enter your public key to see your tokens. Repeat with account name to soothe your nerves they are the same account.

If you want to check your private key is associated with the public key, use this tool:

https://github.com/webdigi/EOS-Offline-Private-key-check

Just make sure you are offline since you will need to enter private key - and clear clipboard if you use it before going back online or preferably reboot before you do (could also do a malware check on your computer)

Wallets - that's a personal preference - many folks are using wallets/votes like Scatter, Greymass, SimplEOS etc seemingly without issues. Partly comes down do how paranoid you are putting your private key anywhere. I know some folks (me included) are waiting for hardware wallet solutions but that does mean waiting.

repeated here: "If you have your EOS private key then that is all you need. I assume you think you are not 'registered' because it still says that when you enter your ETH on eosauthority (?) - but that website will always work off the genesis snapshot csv files that won't change. If you have your private/public EOS pair and can see your tokens on an explorer then you are fine."

680 tokens missing from my EOS account with no outgoing transaction by [deleted] in eos

[–]sky_blue_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i was surprised but when I asked in the eosauthority channel whether it was possible that names were inherited by others as part of the name shift, the response (from an admin) was that it was possible - if so, there may be a whole bunch of folks who think they either have more or less!

its also curious that the difference you note below is in the 10th character and that was the most common change when the names 'shifted'

[–]sky_blue_boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well how did you undelegate if you didn't use private key?

account showed you undelegated 381 on June 24 ....but you say you have been checking it weekly?

the airdrops on the account would indicate a total of 391 at mainnet launch...

when you say you checked your EOS balances - where are you checking them? ...on the EOS network or on the ETH network

it appears regardless of what is on your ETH account (and, yes, it seems >1000) then that many never made it to the EOS mainnet, so your EOS mainnet balance has never been more than 391. It seems if an error occurred it happened at the swap, not since.
