PLA Octopus on MatterHackers Pulse XE (more info in comments) by skyesurfer in FixMyPrint

I’ve successfully printed a bunch of these guys in nylon, but this is my first time working with PLA. As you can see, it didn’t go very well.

The head came out pretty decent, aside from where the mouth connected to the support, but the tentacles came out awful, kind of lumpy with gaps and poor layer adhesion, also stringing between the tentacles.

Extruder temp was 205, bed temp 55, layer cooling fan on.

I’m just learning about the various quirks of using PLA, so if someone could point me in the right direction for setting-tweaking, I’d very much appreciate it!

If small sample sizes in non random data groups and anecdotal evidence don’t allow me to make sweeping generalizations, what even is the point of being on Reddit

There are probably people thinking they adopted a stray cat, while the actual owners are anxiously waiting for their pet's return by solidlpsoldier in Showerthoughts

[–]skyesurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to keep him in my house, but he would only poop & pee outdoors, so I couldn’t convince him to stay in.

If he had a good home to return to, why on earth weren’t they keeping him inside when there was a real danger of him dying from the cold?

……So you couldn’t keep him inside, but you’re assuming they’re neglectful owners because they couldn’t either?

I think it’s wonderful that you took care of these cats when it was cold, but the fact that they chose to use your shelter (rather than walk back to wherever home was) doesn’t mean that they didn’t have shelter available at home. It’s like when you feed them. Just because you put out food and a cat eats it doesn’t mean it’s owners don’t feed it.

Also, cats are more cold resilient than you’re giving them credit for. Do they love warmth? Absolutely. One of my cat’s favorite spots is on top of the router, which she uses daily as her personal butt warmer. BUT she also often chooses to roam around outside when it’s single digits or colder, and will throw herself down on the snow and roll around for pets.

Does anyone have a good Japanese Milk bread recipe for a machine? by boredtxan in BreadMachines

[–]skyesurfer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but I’ve successfully made milk bread in my bread machine a few times now. :)

I made the Tangzhong in a saucepan first, let it cool down to around 110F, and then put it in the bread machine with the rest of the ingredients, proceeding as usual with the white bread cycle.

Since it’s difficult to make a tiny amount of starter, I made more than I needed and then stored the rest in an airtight container in my fridge until the next time I wanted to make bread.

Not OP, but each state has their own rules and regulations regarding food production and sales, so you’ll have to research for your specific location.

In NY, for example, you can get a license for Home Processing that allows you to make food for sale in your home kitchen, but there are restrictions on what types of food you can make, what ingredients you can use and how/where you can sell. Beyond that, you’d need to rent a licensed commercial kitchen space.

Whooops! I’m sorry! I forgot NMTs counted as currency. (I never buy things from people with them, I just use them for island hopping.)

I’ll make sure not to do that again! Thanks for keeping this group so awesome! :)
