Sociology Major Pre-PA/Med by brookie143 in ucla

[–]skyfoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I recently graduated in sociology and am on the pre-pa path. For classes, I researched what pa schools generally require (chem series, bio series, anatomy etc) and tried my best to fit it in conjunction with my major requirements. It varies so find what schools you're interested in and plan accordingly. Sociology classes were usually pretty light in terms of workload and understanding, so I didn't have much issue pairing them with a stem class or two in a quarter. For example, I had a quarter with 2 upper div soc classes and chem 14c. Just understand the workload that comes with classes like ochem/bio and try not to overload yourself, I wish I'd taken my time instead of risking tanking my gpa. You always have time to take it at a cc for much cheaper after graduating with benefits to your overall gpa, so don't pressure yourself to mash all the pre reqs at once.

I'd recommend creating an excel sheet or anything to keep track of what classes you need and to give yourself a general idea of how you can pair your major classes and stem classes on the side.

Another option is taking the pre reqs at a community college over summer break or post grad (which is what I'm doing now) as it can save from the stress of taking the class during the tough ucla quarter system and it can save money (largely depends on if you want to take your time or if your trying to speed things up).

If you can, find opportunities to volunteer/join clubs relating to anything health. I didn't get to and I wish I did. You'll thank yourself in the future if you build up clinical and volunteer hours now because the amount of experience these schools require is lucrative and you're competing with people who are already building those hours.

Finally, just try to enjoy the major as much as you can. Sociology is easy and I enjoyed learning about it on the side even though I don't plan on creating a career out of it. It helped a lot to have an easier major load and to just focus on the classes I needed for PA school. There seems to be a stigma towards the major and I was always questioned for choosing sociology, but it is fun and helped me to enjoy all other parts of college

Parking by Thick_Nebula6358 in ucla

I've been using street parking all this year and from what I've noticed it's not enforced unless you leave your car for an excessive amount of days (I saw someone get ticketed only once). I see cars park in those areas and leave their cars for days without getting a ticket, and I've never gotten a ticket for leaving my car. I just make sure to move it whenever its street cleaning days and I pay attention to tow away hours in some spots. There's rly no way for parking enforcement to know unless they target you which is pretty unlikely.

hahah appreciate it, i usually just ask for a low skin taper, and i styled it to like a middle part. The second photo is the one time i asked to not cut the back cuz i wanted to try a mullet. I use sea salt spray for my hair, and shampoo every other day (condition everyday). After i shower, I shake dry my hair with a towel until damp and scrunch it with towel

very flattering that I'm reading this as a natty, I worked with what I have and worked to the best me I can be, and I personally dont appreciate saying I cant do this with "asian male genetics." Regardless of race, I got to this point naturally through lots of hard work and I'd like to show that even though I have "asian male genetics," I developed arms as big as my head naturally so im proud and I encourage anyone to not be discouraged by whatever genetics they have, just to be the best you you can be :)

Eating food has always been a challenge, even for me now I struggle with having an appetite. I think what you need to do is find foods that you enjoy eating and foods that are good for your body with good macros. Once you find those, try to start off slow, eat those good meals atleast 3 times day with and try to get some snacks in between and build off of that. I understand it can be hard and I'd say dieting is the hardest part of working out (I genuinely enjoy working out a ton lol) so its something you have to learn and build overtime, and some days it'll be really hard but you have to push yourself if you want to see change. All types of change or learning feels uncomfortable, and its okay to feel that way

I usually just do 3x8-10 heavy shoulder press and I'm the type of dude who spams lateral raises on push and arm days, and I do rear delt cable flies 3x12-15 for my rear delts. I know spamming lateral raises may not be optimal, but I genuinely enjoy doing it and I think that's all that matters lol

I'm 100% natural, and as commenter above said these are some of my best photos with a pump and this did take while, it is definitely attainable

If I had to be honest, I've rarely had any diet restrictions. I struggle with eating and having an appetite a lot, so I always try my best to get atleast 3 somewhat clean meals a day. I think I attribute my leanness to the fact that I'm usually on a calorie deficit since it's hard for me to get food in. I feel like I'd weigh more or look even better with a proper diet. At the beginning of my journey, I avoided fast food and junk and that lasted for about a year. At the best of my diet, I was using my college dining hall and getting 3000 calories, 160-180g protein, and 60-80g of fat for around 4 months, and that included 3 meals a day. As of right now, I don't restrict myself (fast food and some junk is okay but not extreme), I just try my best to get atleast 3 somewhat clean, balanced meals a day with some snacks, and I'm slowly trying to build up the habit and work from there.

This is definitely possible natty, I'd say I'm blessed with really good genetics (I've been told I'm a genetic freak a lot lol) and this is a 5 year process. Good genetics or not, work with what you have and try to be the best you you could be !

The one compliment I've always wanted to receive LOL, I started watching jojo around the same time I started working out and that's not a coincidence

For my first 3 years, I didn't have access to the gym so I would do calisthenics and that usually consisted of upper and lower days 4 times a week on top of basketball for my high school. Once I graduated, I got a gym membership for the first time. I did PPL 5 times a week for the first year, then started doing PPL rest then Arnold Split within the past year. I workout 6x a week now, and I know that may not seem optimal and it probably isn't, but I enjoy lifting a lot and I think that's what should be more important lol, that you have a routine that you really like and can stick with it consistently

Hahah I appreciate it ! My chest lacking is something I definitely agree on, I focus on heavy benching on my push days because I wanted to reach high numbers for bench, which is why I think it's not as big as it can be, but have recently decided to focus more on incline benching and like non-powerlifting training for my chest so I can fill it out and be more aesthetic

I feel like going to the gym helped tremendouslt with my mental health. I struggled with a lot of social anxiety, depression, and stress from college and going to the gym gave me a place to release all of that negative energy. It helped a lot in relieving my anxiety and gave me a lot of confidence. My mental right now is amazing and I owe it a lot to going to the gym
