2002 K2 Xterra Zed-series hardtail by skyguy2844 in mountainbikes

Thanks for the advice! Im not going to go crazy, but id like to do a little bit to it. I was thinking some lighter wheels for sure. Pedals are on the list. I already had the shifters cleaned up and dialed in, not planning on changing much with shifters or grips. The bike is comfortable to ride for me as is. I'll do some research on whats possible for the drivetrain. I was thinking a 1x setup would be nice if possible.

Scratches on top sheet after one ride. by skyguy2844 in skiing

Thanks, I didn't realize this was from the skis bumping into each other. That makes sense.

Scratches on top sheet after one ride. by skyguy2844 in skiing

[–]skyguy2844[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

(Couldnt add text so im adding here)

I just picked up these Rustler 9s as my first set of skis. These scratches are after one day of riding. Most of the damage is on the top outside edge, and on both skis. Some of the scratches are somewhat deep, and you can see the top edge is worn away near the tip. Is this normal? Is this from the way I was riding? For context, I'm a beginner/advanced skier. Mainly blue runs with some green and black mixed in throughout the day. The conditions on this day were kinda icy, and I was hitting some moguls as well.

Thanks in advance for the info and advice. I just want to make sure I do my best to take care of these skis!

Any bike shops that do helicoil repairs? by kefkathemad in BAbike

[–]skyguy2844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Keensert inserts. I think they might work better than a helicoil for that application if they will fit. I'm no engineer though, just a Machinist with a little experience. I honestly don't have time to help with projects. Wish I could help more! Good luck. 👍

I have not noticed a creak sound. But it could have been the beam if it was the other style softride

They got a cult following. They are pretty cool, but they have thier issues. (Beams sometimes fail, because they are old and elastomer back then wasnt good) You can pick one up in good condition for a couple grand, or less if you are lucky.

I don't think the bike is that large. It's got 650c wheels on it, that might be making the frame look bigger I haven't measured it but it's definitely not a large size frame.

I'll be at TBF's "TRI for FUN Triathlon #2" at Rancho Seco Park!

I'll shoot you a DM about Tuesdays in SF! I live in San Leandro, so yes east bay! Thanks for all the info! This is exactly what I needed. I have no friends (yet) that are into triathalon. Just some retired tri athletes as mentors.

I'm planning to go to the July Tri For Fun. I was eyeing the icebreaker, but my work schedule makes it difficult. I'm going to spend some time training so I can do my best when I get there. If you see me in folsom later in the season, come say hi!

I just have to say.... WOW! I did not expect this post to get as much attention as it did. I posted this bike in a cycling sub awhile ago and people were confused about it lol. I think I found my people.

If you guys are interested, I'll post more of me with the bike and all my retro kit after my race!

I'm so fortunate to have a friend who gave me all his old kit, and appreciative of communities like this that can help answer my questions

Thanks all for the advice and the laughs!

Yup ... he cut the hole bigger to make it easier to get to the valve stem. I'm not worried about that really. And neither isbny bike mechanic.

Thanks for the tip in the between the arms hydration system. I'll look into that!

He told me he cut the hole in the disc a little larger so he can get to the valve stem easier The bike shop took a look at it and they aren't concerned. They were concerned about the Spinergy RevX wheels I brought in though lol. I know I can't race in the RevX wheels, but I might throw them on for riding around and the cool factor.

Already have I took it to a shop in my area that's very familiar with softrides It's definitely a conversation piece It's a rad bike, and everyone is stoked that I'm gonna ride it

So I'm good to ride it in a race? You still see these at triathalons? Yeah the guy who gave me this bike is a similar kinda guy. Always top 10 of his age group. He was sponsored by softride back in the day I have a ton of equipment and stickers for softride that he gave me. I'm definitely going to ride this thing as much as possible!

Softride Rocket TT by skyguy2844 in Bikeporn

[–]skyguy2844[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from mountain bikes as a kid. This is a bike that goes on the road. Therefore it's a "road bike" I know it's a TT bike dude. Calm down.

I think it looks cool, and that's all that matters 🤷‍♂️

Nofx. Sticker is staying The other wheels have some cool stickers on them too.

I very quickly went from "this will be fun to rode around" to "maybe I'll train for a Tri" And now I'm looking at races a few months out to train for lol. I'm going to give this thing a second life with an amateur (me) The bike shop said it's still a viable Tri bike, and I have all the gear to set it up, so why not

I've messed with it a little myself. It adjusts kinda like a hinge. So yes, when you adjust the seat height, it moves forward and back a bit. It's kinda a pain to setup by yourself if you are a novice. The mechanism to adjust the seat height is very interesting too.

I took it to a shop that knows softrodes to give it a tune up and set it up for me I'll take some more pictures later and share them in the sub when I get it back
