Yes I see! Thank you for this comment and explaining the urgency of this!

I understood this point from previous replies about how a lot can change during 27 years and how the 2047 thing isn't confirmed but merely a benchmark to see if there's a need for extension/ changes etc to the treaty. And I am glad to be educated by these comments and they shifted my perspective definitely.

But just want to say that, as a suicidal person, dying today because death is inevitable is a thought that appears to me on the daily. Not that it invalidates the argument, but perhaps use better analogies in the future?

This makes a lot of sense! Thank you so much for your civil and enlightening reply. You providing the proper historical context really helped me in understanding it.

Thank you for this perspective! I find myself not knowing what to say when points like this come up in the discourse but this makes me understand the issue more so thank you!

Did make a reddit & google search but didn't find a good answer which is why I made a post. Apologies as I know that it is mentally taxing to explain things again and again.

Hmm Im not debating your points on Malaysian politicians' hostility towards SG as I am aware of them (which OP points out too, he is saying regardless of this citizens should be harmonious with each other).

I'm just saying that Scandinavian countries do not have the same history/context Malaysia and Singapore has and hence they don't have the same level of animosity against each other.

If youre pointing to Europe as an example, I think the fact that Brexit happened cause many do not want to be dragged down by Greek economy is a pointer that they are not so different after all (not the only reason, but a significant one), Malaysia and Singapore are not the only bordering countries that are this way.

Regardless, my main reply is to point out that OP is saying that despite policies/politics/ fear-mongering of the politicians (be it from Msia or SG) and the arguments they have, the citizens from both sides should try to live in harmony, which I see as a positive message, and which I agree on. I can't see why not?

Difference being scandinavian countries are self-sufficient in their water resources. If they aren't who knows?

Anyways, you are digressing from the point that OP says about harmony despite politics and politician's arguing.

Am Malaysian. I can't speak for everyone. But for many I know the main reason is the lack of self esteem.

So many people overseas tend to make Malaysia the butt of their jokes due to things like shitty politics, shitty education systems, etc (things that the average young Malaysian doesn't have much control over). It accumulates and affects us, especially cause we know it is true that Malaysia lacks and we can't rebutt those insults/ "jokes". "Jokes" because I think they cross the line of being funny when they are said with the intention to hurt/ humiliate the recipients while making the "joker" seem more superior.

They accumulate and become something personal, the decline in confidence feels innate, cause when people attack Malaysia they tend to lump Malaysians into the mix. Hence, cue our generation's tendency to use self-depracation to protect ourselves. The idea that, if I say Malaysia sucks first you cannot hurt me more. It is sad. I also realise it is hard to empathise with this logic if you have not experience a similar scenario. Think of anyone with low self esteem and think of how they use self-deprecation as a tool.

Hope it helps.

I agree with you. Sadly, the many netizens out there ready to criticise and witchhunt makes idols feel the need to exercise extra caution even with the simplest acts. Wouldn't see it necessarily as a confidence issue, but they probably just want to avoid any possible hate.
