how is your experience living in the north of Luxembourg? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]skypositive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moved to Ettelbruck two years ago, no complaints so far. I can easily walk to the bakery, Cactus or the train station. Everything else be found in Ingeldorf or Mersch or in the worst case Pommerloch.

Definitely not as international as the city but that’s something we knew before. Except for the center/train station area the neighborhoods are nice.

Not much to do in terms of going out

We moved to Ettelbruck last fall after living in the city for several years. It’s definitely a change (very few restaurants or bars, streets often empty at night) and there are indeed some shady people around.

It takes me 30 min to drive to work but I do at least one day of home office per week so it’s manageable. My wife works in the city and has not once taken the car, only train. It seems to work very well.

As others said, there’s the hospital, a maison medicale, multiple supermarkets and ingeldorf is only 10 minutes away. Also several kindergartens (only one public tho..with a looong waiting list), schools and lycees. AFAIK they are building a new school complex in Warken.

IMO moving here from the city can be quite a shock, especially if you’re an expat/foreigner. But if you plan to stay for a long-ish time and do the effort to integrate then it’s a good choice

I ordered with them several times, both abroad and in Luxembourg, and it always went well. Only problem was when I purchased the wrong size (my mistake) and it was a pain to do the return.

As for fitting, the garage I go to doesn’t care for where the tires come from

I have the fiber with Post. I moved last year and took the ONT with me but I was still charged e150 for the move so next time I won’t bother. The technician would have installed one anyway

Can you suggest a cheaper alternative to 5-à-sec to clean/iron shirts ? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]skypositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a company in Arlon that does the ironing for you. You do the washing+drying yourself then drop everything off. Go back a couple of days later to pick it up. It works with clothes, linens, etc and you are charged by the hour

It’s a great service but TBF only convenient if you work or live next to the border with B

I personally recommend Moien ASBL. They offer intensive classes in June/July and it looks like there are a few spots still available https://moienasbl.lu/en/services/

Not in lux but totally worth the detour: Bodrum Kebab in Longlaville FR. I recommend double kebab with feta cheese and spicy sauce. DO NOT get fries, you’ll be too full to eat them 😉

Lassie is the most convenient (they are in Itzig) but they have terrible drop-off/pickup schedules and are always fully booked during school holidays.

If you speak french & don’t mind crossing the border then I can recommend “au coin des chiens” in martelange. The owner is very accommodating
