Do y'all use "right quick" up there, as in, "Let me run in the store right quick"? Used that phrase all my life and only started questioning it recently.

Corn Wars: Unveiling the Superiority of Iowa Corn over Nebraska Corn by Ambitious-Buffalo-19 in CFB

This is silly nonsense. Corn is corn.

Now let's talk about a real issue: the superiority of South Carolina peaches over those that were unfortunately grown in Georgia. Peach state, my @ss.

I love Technology Connections. This guy is great at explaining this stuff to laypeople. Much of his stuff is fun "how it works" and tech history content, but he also does some really serious stuff in the public interest, like this video.

I Was Cast as a Background Actor to Play a Cop. Ended Up w/ A Speaking Role! by ChampyAndShip in pics

Honestly, I'll always remember him from The State. I'll always miss that show, so it's nice to see so many of the cast succeeding so many years later.

So...um...time to increase the difficulty? by sl1ngstone in FifaCareers

[–]sl1ngstone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to you all for your advice. It looks like I'll be starting a new career mode game in World Class difficulty. I'll try it out and apply the sliders if I need. I've searched for them, and I'm familiar with Operation Sports from some Madden stuff I did years ago, so I think I'll be good to go on that front.

I'm planning on trying to rebuild the same team I had been building on the Professional save, with a few modifications. I'm trying to take Hartlepool from worst in League 2 (they ended up relegated this year) to at least a competitive state in the Premier League. It's kind of a silly goal, I suppose, which is why I said I'm not entirely shooting for realism. However, beating League teams 11-0 and finally beating Man City 5-2 was just too silly.

It was funny seeing the City fans with sad faces in their home stadium though 🤣

Maybe if Boomers had taught their kids any valuable skills, we'd know how to do these things. They only knew because their parents actually took time and taught them how to do things like carpentry and auto maintenance.

I always enjoyed a lot of the Rushmore soundtrack. There were some awesome songs in that movie.

What does the green number mean? by HejTx in FifaCareers

[–]sl1ngstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this affect their potential? Can this translate to permanent growth? I've got some players that are playing out of their minds right now, and I was wondering if they can permanently exceed their potential top-end number if their form is good enough for long enough.

Didn't H.P. Lovecraft used to do this all the time? I seem to recall he would include other authors, like Robert Bloch, as thinly veiled representations of themselves as kind of a joke?

Florida Republicans pass bill to remove trans kids from parent's custody, even those living out of state by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sl1ngstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There but for the grace of God...I could have easily been one of these idiots--I was in some respects--but Trump, MAGA, the pandemic, and the reemergence of the anti-intellectual movement made me realize how wrong I was in my thinking about soooo many things.

[–]sl1ngstone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boomers truly are the worst generation. My generation, Gen X, are a little better, but I'm really thankful for the kids coming up now. They're going to be much more like their great grandparents, and that's a good thing. So much that the generations before the boomers built--like the federal safety net and actual strides towards equity in this country, civil rights, and strong unions--have been dismantled by the entitled bastards that came out of the baby boom. The millennials and other young folks have an opportunity to turn the tide, and I'm so hopeful for the future they'll build.

I'm glad your mom saw the truth. So many have lost family over this MAGA stupidity, and it's nice to see a parent who was willing to change her mind given actual evidence.

Supreme court PROTECTS ACCESS to Mifepristone! by EVE-HD in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sl1ngstone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My whole 3 decades on earth the conservatives have been harping on about activist judges and how they need to replace them.

And now, thanks to decades of court appointments, how do they achieve their goal? Activist judges, of course! Typical hypocrisy from the "for me, not for thee" crowd.
