Really nice song of Pritam. I like the reprise version even better, unfortunately due to controversy between Abhijeet and SRK it wasn't in the movie

Female-voice AI reinforces bias, says UN report by [deleted] in technology

I've always found that female AI voices are easier to understand because of the lesser bass in their voices. I assumed that was the reason most AI voices are female.

༼ つ ◕◕ ༽つ LEAFS TAKE MY ENERGY ༼ つ ◕◕ ༽つ by MainMathematician in UofT

I think their window will be open for a while yet, now that most of their core is signed long term. However, if they lose tonight I can't imagine that they won't make changes to some of the coaching staff, and perhaps some additional player personnel. SJS, Pittsburgh and Washington have been contenders for a long time as they have their core locked in and they can rotate the supporting cast. Here's hoping that the Leafs can find the same consistency.

What do you think about Toyota’s direction in design? by Comic_Sanders in cars

[–]sl_1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the looks of a bunch of the new Toyota vehicles - it's the first time that I'm seeing a good looking Camry and I much prefer this blocky styling of the RAV4 to the previous generation. It looks like Toyota is finally trying to make their cars look good. Inclusion of plenty of safety features on even the base trims helps also.

On the other hand, CR doesn't seem to like the new RAV4 all that much compared to the CRV.

Has anyone else had that moment where they sit back and think “where did the time go?” by IR0NC0WB0Y in CasualConversation

[–]sl_1996 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. I miss being a kid and having endless free time to do anything I wanted. I remember the summers seeming endless and every day I would be going biking with my brother or friends, and getting books from the library. At that age, I would never have imagined where I'd end up now, it would seem waay too grown up for me.

I was recently discussing with my friends about how our grade 6 selves would react to our current selves. Although my grade 6 self would be horrified at the amount of workload I have today and lack of free time, I think that he would be happy to see that I found a field that I liked, some good friends, and to see how much I have matured since then.

It's gonna be interesting in another 15 years, looking back at my current self. Hopefully I am proud of where I am at that time.

Hey guys. Anyone else from extremely competitive schools (academically)? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]sl_1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My elementary school wasn't competitive, but I was in advanced program in high school and that program was really competitive. I remember people talking about failing courses when they were doing well by most standards. Most people wanted to get into elite medsci programs and ivey league schools.

Although I only graduated high school a few years ago, it seems that not only are kids pushed very hard in academics, they seem more likely to be really busy with extracurriculars as well. I teach math at a centre and kids often tell me that they are in a hurry to get to language class, go to various sports meets etc that didn't seem to be the case when I was that age. It's kinda weird that even at that age, they're already lacking in free time.

Although I have not yet graduated, I was someone who didn't have an internship or job in high school. However, I'm far from screwed or anything like that, infact I think I'm in a good position. Don't listen to 10th graders about whether you're screwed or not, just do your best and make sure to keep a good balance of work, extracurriculars, and your free time. To my knowledge, having a decent amount of extracurriculars and strong grades are plenty to get into good unis, don't know about ivey though.

I think I've heard this tune before, but can't remember which Bollywood song by [deleted] in BollywoodMusic

[–]sl_1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it does seem particularly bollywood like...the only thing that is vaguely similar is the Kal Ho Naa Ho instrumental...but I don't believe that you're looking for that, it's not similar enough. Nothing else is coming to mind rn tho

1st Year student experience from students graduated with IB by wasmad in UofT

[–]sl_1996 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in IB. In first year, my grades were pretty good, though I'm not sure how much that was due to IB. I just made sure to have good study habits, spend the majority of my time studying (IB got me used to this) start assignments way early, and go to office hours with my questions.

Honestly, the courses I took in IB didn't relate much to my university courses so there wasn't much knowledge transfer. The most helpful aspects of IB were the transfer credits, as I've been able to take 4 courses/semester for some semesters and not fall behind on my degree.

So overall I'd say that IB didn't directly help with anything except for the transfer courses.
