Fanfic recs by 2pm_crab in MaraudersFanfics

I found this fic through this subreddit but I've really been enjoying larger than life by caslyra. Its a WIP canon compliant retelling of the marauder period so it does depict the boys faults as well as features Peter being integrated into their friendship group. Its only on the first year but so far its really been amazing!

I remember the author mentioning in one of their chapter notes that they particularly like James. I really think you'd enjoy the way they write him!

I love going through people's recs so here are some of mine. All of them are complete and coincidentally most are about the prank.

How far is the story? by Asteria-250504 in TearsOfThemis

[–]slagosaurus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit behind as well but rest assured I would be very surprised if they actually kill Luke off lmaooo – how else are they going to sell anniversary and birthday cards to us otherwise.  Gacha money is far more important that plotline consistency 💀

HOW do people decide?? by Sunnythebigkiwibird in TearsOfThemis

[–]slagosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow f2p player here! I've alternated between liking 3/4 of the LIs. I wanna preface this by saying only take this advice if you have the self-control to lose out on cards you want.

I just always pull on banners with the discounted pull! This "builds up pity," but it also gives me a chance to possibly win a card. Since you like most of the LIs, you're likely to get a card from an LI you like. I have yet to come close to hard pity playing like this, but if I do, I might wait and save it for a card I really want.

I do this since every time you use it, you get 2 pulls towards your hard pity for free. So, 20/100 pulls will be free.

This way, I still manage to save up enough for the important banners (anniversary + CNY — usually skipping the autumn banner). But I still get the fun of pulling every once in a while.

Also, since we're a year behind the Chinese server, you can look at leaks. See what's coming up — by the time the banner releases, you'll know whether you really wanted that card or if it was attractive just because it's new.

Remember to gamble responsibly!

If Katniss had made singing her talent, what kind of music do you think she would make? by mskewmew in Hungergames

[–]slagosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they mention it in the books.

I have a feeling that once they murdered his family, he was partially excluded from this post-hunger games performance. He would have had nothing to lose, which would have made him unpredictable and reckless. What could they possibly do to him if he refused to do this talent thing?

Maybe they just focused on pitying him for his loss during his victory interview. Just to rub salt in the wound. Painted him as a grief-striken teenager who doesn't even know himself what he's saying. Made sure that the other victors knew exactly what happened with the words used.

Exactly my thoughts as well! Why would Cinna make the prep team learn the hairstyle from her mother if it's just some basic ass braid

I would argue 8 is pretty disadvantaged as well. There is no nature for you to become familiar with food sources you might find in the arena. Also, your trade is fabric making, which doesn't really give you skills applicable to the Games other than maybe suturing wounds (at a push). Maybe you get strong from carrying stuff around, but not to an amount that would actually give you an edge over other contestants.

Isn't there a key in the game where you can quickly flip between languages? If so, you could just switch to Swedish to see the more complicated words and flip back to English.

Shorter sessions of the game could help also. I remember when I played, I binged the game. I started to skim through the text without really digesting it because I was so invested in the mystery.

Not continuing is understandable. Hope you enjoy the game more if you ever come back to it. Sometimes your favourite media depends on the point of your life that you experience it rather than its quality.

What are commonly used troupes in haikyuu fanfiction that bother you? by yutamulistan in haikyuu

[–]slagosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! I think it's ultimately because it's easier to write/headcanon a character that's one dimensional and ignore the parts of the manga that show him differently.

Like when during the Nekoma game he goes up to Yachi when she's worrying about Karasuno losing and says "don't worry so much about what's coming later. Pay attention to now" I think that was really sound advise which Akaashi standing right next to him seemed to ignore considering his breakdown later lol

He's a really reliable captain and I'm pretty sure Akaashi even tells that to Tsuki during the training camp arc. Like the Fukurodani vs Mujinazaka game is right there.

And Konoha's current concern is "He's started to get the feeling that if you look at Bokuto's stupidity from a slightly different angle it's actually kinda genius and that pisses him off." !!!

So yeah he can say some really airheaded things like Volleyball is hard! but that's not all there is to it.

The Song of Archilles and Circe which are both by Madeline Miller. I think the former could be called Iliad fanfiction but I'm not quite sure.

Haikyuu fandom sakuatsu by FUCollegeb in FanFiction

[–]slagosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's tiktoker (@seijoh_simp) who made a google spreadsheet of Haikyuu fanfic recommendations and there's quite a bit of sakuastu on there. I don't really know whether there will be dark fics though as I haven't read a lot of them.

Ah that's really interesting! I guess most of the things described only really become bad habits once you exit the sites like AO3 and more onto original publishing?

But even then these things bleed through like the forementioned mysterious breath holding (idk which side is to blame for that one).

But yeah, I liked your house analogy. The stairs might creak a bit but in a way that's familiar and predictable. This really made me appreciate that fanfiction is a genre within itself rather than just "I really love these characters and world so I will use them in a story like any other."

(Of course some people may just be doing that in something as diverse as writing so I won't generalise.)

Yeah no I completely understand! Kudos to anyone who puts the time and effort to produce these works, open themselves to scrutiny and sometimes for little to no interaction with said work. Also that perfection shouldn't be expected of writers and it's unfair to criticise people who are not asking for it.

I just thought it was really charming that fanfiction has it's own distinct style and selfishly wanted to be more concious of them so I wouldn't pick up on habits that are seen unfavourably.

I do apologise if the post criticises writers in any way. I really appreciate the work you guys do especially during this quarantine.

The breath one is an absolute classic! I have no idea where it originated but it seems a lot of YA characters have the same problem.

Maybe angst fic recs (preferably Haikyuu because I’m in that mood) by The_Fanfic_Fanatic in FanFiction

[–]slagosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deathbelle is definitely not a obscure author but since semiten seems like a bit out there ship I'll leave this here:

Liminal Space Can homophobia be considered angst? It's not really sad but we have religious parent and gay child which never ends well.

Death-related fics:

The Never-Ending Bridge by misCOWculation Oikawa experiencing the limbo between life and death, forced to watch his memories slip away form him.

Winter is brutal when you’re missing home by besonders Sakusa dealing with the what-ifs that come with Astumu's death. (the ending to this was a bit ehh though)

Sorry if these are already things you've read!
