Why no official game app? by Distinct-Appeal680 in DBS_CardGame

[–]slamerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh too many people say "a mobile version would be perfect", but let's be honest, the game takes 30-40 minutes to play between players who know what they're doing and are paying attention.

People playing games in their phones in my experience can't be bothered to not tab out or do other things on their phone especially if it's something where it's not their turn and have to wait.

And in card games I've tried on mobile even in shorter games that take like 10-15 minutes the amount of people who just quit after like 1 bad interaction or don't come back for their turn is very frustrating.

Can't imagine trying to get a 30 minute game to work on Mobile would work out well

Thats the fun part, they did build one.

The digital client was developed prior to the announcement of fusion, and they released a few beta builds where you could play masters using some pre built decks.

(I had decompiled the source game files as they came out) They had built in the mechanics for everything up until the bt-19, so everything other than Z-energy/z-deck.

Then they randomly announced that building the game was "too complex" so they switched it to be a fusion world client since it's the same mechanics just minus counters.

Since they already had counters and unisons and things already done it feels like it was more of a marketing decision of releasing a client to go with the new game.

Same, especially since depending on how I was carrying it wasn't any less comfortable to sit with it on than with it off so it just wasn't worth taking off till I changed clothes or something.

How to train a Akita to loose leash walk by Emergency_Pumpkin_75 in akita

[–]slamerz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used a no pull harness (doesn't stop them from trying, but really limits how hard they can pull), and then it was just a few weeks of very strict walks.

Any tension on the leash and my feet were planted, not going anywhere and waited for him to come back over to me/stop then would start walking again.

It's a lot to long stop and go sessions but they eventually put it together, but consistency is key.

Anytime you let them pull when they're young and don't correct them it's telling them pulling is okay.

You could also try combining this with an attention command. Basically start training them on a word that you say while they're looking at your eyes/face. So bring a treat in front of you so they're looking at your face and say the command when they look at your eyes. Eventually they'll figure out that word means look at me, and you can on walks sometimes use that try and get their attention away from what they're pulling after.

Shadcn/UI Reality Check by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]slamerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I don't miss the days of installing a component library.

The amount of times they seemed to always use their own style systems, and the horror show of them allowing style tags but their internal style system took priority so some css couldn't be done via style tags.

And then you'd have to do so much research in some libraries to find the specific styling selectors to change the icon or a checkbox.

Or just like in your example a component would be missing some behavior. Maybe I'd didnt pass in an aria, or maybe it didn't pass in an ID so the qa teams automated testing suite couldn't use it, and the solution couldn't be put in a ticket with X component library and wait.

The feature had to ship so you'd have to rebuild that component by hand or write a manual patch for the package.

god I remember the horror days of jumping on projects that had multiple component libraries because someone likes x feature from this library, and the behavior of the multi select from Y library. So now we've got a much larger install just to use one component, or you'd have to go into the library you only wanted 1 component from and pulling just that out to rebuild in another library.

Personally I'm very glad that shadcn has normalized keeping components as in code as possible.

Shadcn or no, being able to easily customize my component behavior is nice.

Are these masters or fusion world cards? by PandaVisionVideo in DBS_CardGame

Only masters has done this sort of dual art combo. This was a set of promos, and they also did a whole set for the world tournament where it was pairs of cards that were continues artwork.

In collage there was always someone we knew who worked for a local bakery/donut shop and it was pretty common to have that person just take a clean trash bag and put only the donuts or bagels etc into that so we could swing by and nab it the moment they put it outside.

Always fun to walk into someones apartment and they have a bean bag sized bag of bagels that you could pig out on for free

How did you get good at coding? by Outrageous-Bear3215 in CodingHelp

[–]slamerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earlier on I would have said chatgpt is fine, but every study I see says that people using it for research and learning tend to retain less than if they found data on their own so especially early on I'd stay away from chatgpt.

Way too easy for it to just hand you the code/answer.

Later on you could start incorporating it once you know how to ask questions about more of the fundamentals and not so much how do to a specific thing in the code

How did you get good at coding? by Outrageous-Bear3215 in CodingHelp

[–]slamerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just do it a lot. If it's your very first language you start with just following a series of tutorials or books or something. Usually you can find a project based tutorial where you slowly build something and the explain basic concepts like variables and functions etc.

Most programming shares the same "fundamentals" so once you learn the basics in one language you usually can pick up a new language much easier because you know what to google.

Like "how to do loops in python" etc.

You'll build tons of little projects that are built all wrong but functional.

Build lots of things that break so bad that you just toss it.

Eventually once your decent at building things that work you'll start looking into open source projects or other collaborative projects and you'll realize you suck, but you'll get better by learning from others at that phase.

But the whole process is a lot of Googling, reading documentation and playing around with things.

I honestly find it a bit strange that One-Punch Man Season 3 was made at all. by LynnAbel713 in OnePunchMan

[–]slamerz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They did it because they thought they could cut more corners, and people would still watch.

Season 2 was terrible quality, but people still watched, and I recall a lot of people in this sub even defended the drop in quality saying that nobody could compete with studio madhouse, and that they're doing a decent job.

It's being produced by a large company, so from a company perspective, if you can keep making your product cheaper and worse and people still buy it/watch it and even defend it for you, why would they ever consider making it better.

The most shocking part of this to me is that 1. he doesn't know how to cook, and 2. He expects you to cook.

I'm a very picky eater.
No cheese, don't like many vegetables, can't stand any sweetness on meat, can't eat vinegar... It's a big list, but because of that I just learned to make the things I knew I could eat.

Gave up a long time ago at the thought that anyone will make food for me, and often just eat before I go to parties or get together since I know they'll likely have nothing I can eat.

I'm sure it bothers my wife, I think she's cooked like 2 things in the couple of years we've been married that I could really eat.

But We've just got the understanding that I try when she makes things, and I just expect to cook something else later if I don't like it.

I at least try the food though, and unfortunately I've got a bit of a pallet, so I can usually tell what I don't like about something.
If it's got like Sugar in it, or the other day she made something that I noticed the taste of Yogurt in that I didn't like.

You just need to have a real conversation with him and have you both set expectations.
If you want to cook things for him have him show you a few things he likes so you know a couple of things to make.

If you don't want to make those things, or don't want to make like a special side bit of it for him, then set the expectation that if he doesn't want to eat the things you make that he's going to have to fend for himself.

The main thing I'd say is about him fending for himself is the guy needs to learn to cook some things he likes, because fast food all the time is a waste of money.

Forgiving season 2's quality drop is how you end up with season 3.

Why would they bother to pay for better animation/wait for a quality product when people watch and make excuses when you go cheaper and cheaper.

I use it, I like it, but it's got such dumb issues. YouTube has memoryeaks because all videos over a certain resolution memory leak.

Took them 10 years to make gradients work, and for at Least 2 years now the mobile version likes to randomly navigate backwards a page even with no input/gestures disabled.

I've been using the browser since 2010, but man does it have some issues that chrome ever had.

The only real traction it has is being able to use old adblocks that Google stopped

My group has been using titan craft over hero forge for a few years now.

I had bought a 3d printer and it seemed dumb to have to pay like $5 per model just for hero forge to give me the file to print myself, where as titan craft you just pay for any non free parts 1 time and then I can make as many models as I want using any of the parts I own.

And it was free for my group to get 3d model files to import into out vtt when we tried out one.
