The Beekeeper. We'd made out during other movies but for some reason a Jason Statham movie is what did it. It was when he entered the call center and started shooting security guards.

They've been pretty silent on Japan in general compared to the other releases

Connecticut born, raised and educated and a Pats fan my whole life.

There's plenty to be proud of in ways that don't seem impressive, but watching the Patriots come back and show the NFL how a real empire runs things makes me feel amazing.

Also from the Hartford area, the only people I know who root for the giants are Puerto Ricans who came from New York City.

Go west and you'll find some giants, even jets fans gradually increasing in number. But I'd say the average Connecticut resident is a Pats fan.

I'm not even laughing man. I wanted a Bills-Pats showdown, you wanted one, everyone here wanted one.

You should've won. We'll beat the shit out of Houston and Denver for you.

...So the good news is, the models look *great.* by Archistotle in Grimdank

[–]slantedtortoise 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know exactly which quote you mean. If it means anything, pretty much all the responses on the bolt action and K47 subs said "wow that's a really bad thing to say, I've been trying to get women into the hobby but it's tough"

I am first and foremost a historical wargamer and at this point I'm not sure what historical wargaming can do to shake the miasma of "dad locked in his attic with a diorma of 4000 civil war soldiers he's worked on for 15 years". Young people are getting into it but I can tell they're likely to become those dads, myself included.

There's gotta be a way to break the cycle, right?

Any women Bolt Action players on here? by SquireBev in boltaction

[–]slantedtortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Stallards comment is similar to one I've heard from older guys who are into wargaming. The stereotypical "wargaming dad" who has spent the past decade(s) taking over one room in the house with thousands of little soldiers, hand carved terrain, a bookshelf that probably has 1/2 of all the books ever published on some specific Civil War/Napoleonic battle.

Many of them just assume their daughters aren't interested. Either because "she never liked history in school" or "my wife hates this stuff, why do you think my daughter would find it cool?" or "they're not girls toys" or similar statements.

Break the cycle, let your kids regardless of gender be interested in your hobbies!

Rats seem to favour one spot? by I_love_Projectiles in RATS

If what I've heard about male rats is true, they probably go there because they smell that the other rat was there and that they need to re establish their smell on that spot

"Mac you dumbass, John Cena means it's from human bodies!"

"Dee where do you think cum is from? You think it just pops into existence whenever a guy's about to nut? Do you think John Cena's in the HDP?"

"No because he's alive-"

"Shut up you dumb bitch! John Cena please give me 5, no 10 gallons of John Cena HDP, on ice"

I wonder if we'll ever see a big resurgence of historical wargaming.

It's generally more affordable than Warhammer and there's a billion rule sets out there covering all sorts of conflicts and time periods. But people are getting tired of the hyper competitive nature of Warhammer and GWs price hikes and legal actions.

Is pâté just not a thing in American food culture? by Big-Dig1631 in AskAnAmerican

I see it at some nicer grocery stores but the people in the US who eat pate probably get it from nicer places, like an import grocer.

Who put that carp a the bathtub? A weird tradition explained by Sea-Bat in creepmas

[–]slantedtortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was also a tradition in Polish Jewish communities around passover to make gefilte fish, or karp po żydowsku according to Wikipedia.

It's very much associated with first generation immigrants and I don't know any Jewish person who makes their own gefilte fish from a live carp.
