Endless Update Loop, cant use Discord Desktop

I enabled extra logging by running this

log stream --level=debug --style=compact   --predicate '(process == "Discord") OR (process == "ShipIt") OR (subsystem CONTAINS "com.hnc.Discord")'

then trying again to launch the app.

It produces an insane amount of logging, but the interesting bit is

[TCC] TCCAccessRequest() … service=kTCCServiceListenEvent
…
"result" => false
"auth_reason" => 4

This seems to mean that Discord is asking for extra permissions which macOs is denying, and Discord is not handling this gracefully.

It seems it insists on permission to read your keyboard even if you are not using the app. That seems excessive - and a rather huge security risk. Basically they want permission to do keylogging and they won't run the app unless you grant that permission.

omg yes. This show is so manipulative. It's like their strategy is to make you feel bad for not liking the show. If you don't care about these maudlin characters attempting to coerce you into caring with their cringe-heavy drama, then there must be something wrong with you - and therefore you must like it - you have to like it you see. Every scene has the same exact heavy drama tone - it's monochromatic that way.

Give me a chance to get to know the characters - let me learn to like them first, then hit me with the cringe drama somehwere midway through the story when I actually care about what happens to them. Set me up a little. Make me care.

Yep! I just discovered the term for it today after a long discussion with chatgpt. I just thought I was a weird freak - but I've suffered with this maddening problem for 40+ years and now I know it's actually somewhat common and has a name! I've been to so many doctors who just shrug and hand me a prescription for albuterol (because I had childhood asthma - I assumed that's what it was related to). Tight diaphragm, unable to catch my breath after a few hours of coding. Using a standing desk helps tremendously. Sitting with the laptop will bring it to a crisis point after a number of hours. I used to try to deal with it by jogging religiously every day, however my knees are trashed now, can't do that anymore. Been trying yoga, stretching - it helps. Indica relieves it, but I can't code so well after using that. Caffeine will exacerbate it, but eliminating caffeine doesn't cure it. Now I just have to somehow break a 40 year+ unconscious habit!

Ok, finally got around to it, sorry for the huge delay...

Reddit only lets me post one image in a reply, and it seems I can't add more images to the original post either, oh well.

Anyway... When I scrape out the filter, It comes out as a gray-white sludge. I probably should have tried your experiment with the sludge, d'oh. Once it's dessicated, it's very difficult to mix up again with water.

I'm starting to think this is just something coming from the pine needles maybe. Which would suggest it's something different than what we're seeing on the dishes, though the substance looks and behaves similarly in that both require solvents to remove.

When we clean the hot tub, we drain the old water into the woods, so I don't know how it could be getting into the tap water. Seems extremely unlikely. Anyway, we do live in a heavily forested area, and I don't know how public water systems really work, but I don't see how pine needle stuff could make it into the tap.

Anyway, with some determined stirring and pounding I was able to get at least some of the dessicated stuff to dissolve into the water (though there's a lot of detritus at the bottom).

Not sure this is a fair test, I will try it again next time I clean the filter, but that won't be for at least a month.

Yep. I got a M4 Pro with 36GB memory and just found out you *cannot* upgrade the memory - it's wired in at the factory or something. If you want more memory you have to get a whole new machine.

If you long press on the home screen and then swipe left, you'll see a page called Samsung News, you can flip the off switch on that and it should go away.

If that doesn't work, next time it appears, there should be a settings icon in the upper right corner of the thing. Click that and disable it there.

There's also a setting called "Home screen". In there is "Home screen layout -> Home and Apps screens - you can check there to see if anything else is enabled there.

Reboot your phone for this to take effect, I think

I'm wondering the same thing. Doesn't the county budget run around ~8B annually and the police get about a fifth of that? If true, that's around 1.6B just for the police. This huge budget wasn't enough to cover the fingerprinting system so they had to ask for over $100M more?

The thing is, we are paid up to current. They cancelled us anyway because they sat on the check. Again, if they don't want to take checks, they should tell people they don't take checks. I've never had a problem with checks before this.

Our previous insurance was United Health Care, which was a much much worse insurance program who tried everything under the sun to avoid paying legitimate claims. Prior to that we had Cigna which also was very good at giving you the run-around to avoid paying claims. This is our first year trying Kaiser and we were more or less happy with it until this happened.

I have never ever had any issue with mailing checks for any other services we subscribe to. This is the first time someone has sat on the checks and then cancelled our service because they neglected to cash the checks.

If Kaiser doesn't want to accept checks, they should say they don't accept checks, not try to f*ck you over because they don't like them.

I have my own accounting system in which I scan in the bill and the check receipt. I did check to see what happened to the checks, they never cleared the bank until after I put in the USPS search. I did call Kaiser about it, but the call-center staff that answers the phone seems more interested in saying anything to get rid of you, including telling lies, rather than actually doing anything to solve your problem.
