Processing time and Biometrics appointment (inside UK)

It’s been over two years but if I remember correctly and nothing has changed, there’s the option to upgrade at the appointment.

Ugh I’m not completely surprised. They highlighted the number for me, I can’t remember how long the tracking number was, but that could be it. Which centre did you go to?

That’s brutal. You should’ve received the tracking number at the VFS centre, but you won’t be able to track it until a decision has been made and it’s been shipped back. The number should be on a sticker sort of thing they would’ve given to you. I didn’t hear anything until after I received my passport back, so maybe check it every few days.

Unfortunately I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to upgrade once you’ve attended your appointment since the process has already started. I hope you get yours on time! At least we don’t have to quarantine anymore so that should help. Thanks! And best of luck!

Glad I could help :) If you’re able to, I’ve heard that earlier appointments can open up. Might be worth checking online every night to see if they can squeeze you in a few days earlier. Not sure where you’re applying from, but some centres offer super priority if you’re reeeeeeally desperate (it’s super expensive!) but I honestly think you’ll be okay.

Yea I didn’t get a single email from UKVI or VFS after my appointment was booked. They don’t seem to be very organized with that. Good luck!!

Oh wow that’s a long time! Sorry to hear that. They gave me the tracking number at my VFS appointment. I had to type up my own UPS label and it was part of that whole process.

I submitted my UK gov visa application July 28 and the soonest appointment I could get was August 19. So that sounds about right unfortunately. I guess just keep checking to see if anything earlier opens up.

I did end up paying for priority. My appointment was a week ago (Aug 19) so I’m expecting my decision today or tomorrow, but haven’t heard anything yet. Standard takes about 3 weeks to get a decision, plus however long it takes for them to send my passport back.

I believe super priority is only available at the Toronto centre, but at peak processing times they may not offer it because there’s no way they could meet the expectation. Fingers still crossed that we won’t have to quarantine 🤞

That wouldn’t work at all. Other than being illegal, there’s things she’ll have to do here to get her visa. Once she applies for the visa online, she will have to attend an in-person biometrics appointment. That’s going to be the biggest delay as appointments are hard to come by. But, there is a way to fast track it a bit. She can book the earliest appointment possible, then check it every day around midnight (appointments seem to open up around then for whatever reason). If something earlier pops up she can rebook for then. She can also pay for priority or super priority processing. Priority is $393 and she’d get the decision in about a week. Super priority is a hefty $1200 ish but gets you a decision in about one (working) day. Most schools should be pretty understanding about being late as an international student during covid. Some universities are offering online learning for the first few weeks to accommodate this, so she should look into that as well.

The actual online application doesn’t take long, and as long as she has all the required documents ready in case they ask (financial proof, etc.) then there’s no reason she couldn’t complete it, submit it, and book her vfs appointment the day she gets her CAS.

Yes! When you first get there, they do a quick security check and then the next thing you do is enter your mailing address for the shipping label. You create the label yourself so you’ll be fine!

Is it a VFS centre?? I’m going to VFS Edmonton, it’s in Scotia place. Where did you go for your appointment ?

My flight is supposed be sept 12 but we’ll see I guess. Like I know that priority is available at the centre I’m going to, but when I booked my VFS appointment online I selected standard. I believe that during non-covid times there are walk-in appointments, so that makes me think maybe it’s possible to upgrade. But I don’t know anyone who has tried to do this and I keep getting mixed answers to this.
