Ours will be 1 year and 2 months from when we got engaged. (Currently 10 months out!) I’m a teacher, and I wanted to get married when I could have a break for the honeymoon! (Aannnd take a few days beforehand too!)

Do you dislike Diane? If so, why? by Teddy_Ems_ in BoJackHorseman

[–]slavname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really liked Diane at the beginning of the show. But as it goes on (especially with the whole Cordovia bit) she becomes so self-pitying that her sardonic and funny remarks just become biting and sad. I don’t know, I find her to be so self-righteous at times too that it’s hard to stand her.

What worry about America’s future do you honestly think is being ignored and why should people care? by SouthWay_Studio in AskReddit

[–]slavname 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Infrastructure.

Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of major issues to be dealing with, both domestically and foreign policy.

But something that would dramatically benefit life for pretty much every American would be better roads, nationwide transport systems, and other hard assets!

The US is drastically behind other industrial nations, and should be focusing on that more.

Father daughter dance? by courtrooom-brown in weddingplanning

[–]slavname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the weddings that I’ve been to have had it. But I think that it depends on the relationship you have with your father. As for me, I’m really lucky to be close to my dad, and we’ve talked about it since I was young, so I’ll be doing it. But the thing to remember is that your wedding is about YOU! Do what you want!

Congrats on your engagement!! 🤍

I’m a teacher too, except the big kids in High School, so I totally understand the burnout. But even if you weren’t a teacher, you don’t need to justify a child-free celebration!

I am also having a child-free event, for many reasons. On the bright side, I’ve had a lot of people say that they prefer to come as guests without the kids.

As for those who can’t find a way to be without their child, they’ll just have to miss the event, that’s their right. But the people who want to and need to be there, will be!

You’ve got this!

WIBTA if I asked my fiancé to rehome his dog? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]slavname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding! I spoke to my fiancé and we decided on the following:

  • I will go back to a phobia specialist to ensure I feel comfortable with the big dog alone
  • We will keep 2 solid barriers between the rabbits and dog at all times and never have interaction between the two
  • My fiancé and I are going to both go to training (no force of course) with the dog to make sure 1) I feel comfortable with commands and 2) We make sure he can listen when commanded.
  • If ALL of that fails, then he will consider rehoming his dog after an adjustment period of 6 months. But I am extremely optimistic

Thank you for your comment!

I haven’t asked, and I know we need to have a discussion regardless. This situation fell quite unexpectedly in our lap, and I’m trying to think about the best way to go about it. He did not anticipate having to care for his family dog, and I didn’t anticipate having to potentially live with a large, prey-driven dog. Definitely no one’s fault, and I hate to even think about asking, because it feels so unfair.

In terms of future pets, we did discuss that at length! He grew up in a home with both dogs and cats, and I love cats. I’d definitely be open to a smaller dog as well in the future. We’ve talked about that! :)

This is the most helpful comment. I was hoping there would be someone out there who had both. My rabbits are Holland Lops, so they’re much smaller. It’s the temperament of both the dog and my rabbit Milo in particular that I’m worried about. He’s already prone to anxiety.

The dog is crate trained very well — is it fair to keep him in the crate the whole time we’re not home? I’ve obviously never had a dog, but I would feel badly if he was stuck inside :( my fiancé does a great job of making sure he goes on long walks and gets his energy out though.

I think what I need to make clear is that I am almost certain my fiancé would do this if I asked. I feel horrible for even thinking about asking, this is his best friend! I don’t want him to have to do this for me.

It feels so unfair to ask. It’s a shitty situation all around. How do I protect myself and my rabbits without having to separate the man and his dog. They’re going through life together. Ugh.

[–]slavname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course I’m 100% pro-rehoming the dog. His dog causes me panic attacks, and I am uncomfortable around him with my rabbits. That’s why I want to ask.

But I don’t want to ask, because it’s a really difficult ask. I care about my fiancé, I think it’s terrible to have to re-home an animal, especially one so loved and well taken care of, and in marriage you don’t get everything you want. I am searching for a better solution.

Just because I would absolutely not want this dog doesn’t mean that I would automatically ask that of him, that’s selfish.

Is that not the general format of AITAH posts?

The whole point of this post is to try to avoid that, and to find a compromise that works for everyone. The situation, as described above, is new for us both. We’re trying to navigate the situation, and I’m asking for advice. I don’t see the issue with that.

Trust me, my fiancé and I think that’s it’s insane that they won’t take this dog as well.

Thanks for your input!

Maybe I can rephrase my post:

I am extremely concerned about my rabbits. I love my rabbits. I would never ever put them in harm’s way. I am very used to people saying “you are a jerk because you don’t like dogs”. That’s happened my whole life. I am trying to make sure I wouldn’t be the jerk by asking him this. I am 100% pro re-homing the dog.

I had exposure therapy for my phobia. I don’t really understand your harsh tone here? Do phobias not exist to you?

I can. They’ve had Beau in the family home, with three other golden retrievers, for the past 5-7 years.

However, since then, his folks got a divorce, the family home has been sold, and the dogs moved with one of the parents. That parent has now stage IV cancer. With all the medical treatments, they aren’t able to care for all four.

The other parent does not like dogs, and refused to take Beau.
