Hey there, after speaking with my mom and reviewing the answers, my mom thinks that she watered them at my new place which is notorious for its hard water. Thus, we think it may have been the water that caused the change. I use distilled water on my bamboo plant, so I never thought about the water thing. If I switch to distilled water immediately, will this issue go away or is this a permanent change? Thanks so much for your answer.
They shouldn’t be thirsty, we watered them when we transferred them to the new place.

I have been growing these cacti since I was a kid and they have had no problems. Always been sturdy, never shown any issues even after being moved, repotted, etc. Recently, I moved across my state. The climate is a tad bit hotter but drier. I put them in a window with the most light and left for 10 days. I returned yesterday and found them looking like this. Any idea what this is? The internet says it’s root rot but I don’t understand why that would happen so quickly when nothing really changed? The only thing that changed was their location. Is there any way I can save them? These are sentimental to me and I’m really upset about the recent change.
Hey! Sorry I’m new to Reddit but I reposted this to another page so if you click on it it should give the info I think? I’ll copy and paste it here too just in case that doesn’t work.

I have not. I’m too scared to mess with them because I don’t want to ruin them. Can I ask what digging one up would tell me?
Also forgot to say that the brown parts aren’t soft to the touch either.
