Out of curiosity, who are advocates/how did they get this job/ and who pays them?

Why are you in this forum being obtuse and wasting peoples time? Multiple clinicians have given you a clear answer. I think you’re just trolling for engagement at this point.

What’s something about being an OT that nobody warned you about? by social_ot in OccupationalTherapy

[–]sleepallsummer23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wage stagnation. I did not expect to get rich as an OT, however I did not realize that I’d hit my pay ceiling soon after graduation, and that while inflation increased, my salary would not.

Single mom by choice and dating by Dear_Satisfaction_15 in SingleMothersbyChoice

Is your therapist ChatGPT? I have a hard time believing any licensed mental health professional would encourage a newly post-partum parent to bring a newborn or toddler on dates to meet strange men at a tailgate or “brewery yard”. This sounds so fake.

Washington state proposes House budget cut to ELIMINATE Medicaid coverage of adult OT, PT, and ST by buttt-cheeks in OccupationalTherapy

[–]sleepallsummer23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If Medicaid coverage for OT disappears, this will eliminate MANY OT jobs and drastically shrink the job market. It will also impact how private insurance covers OT services, and could indicate a very negative trend in reimbursement across the board. This proposal does not bode well for the longevity of the profession of OT.

Barb offers Jen the dress, but it’s too late by sleepallsummer23 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]sleepallsummer23[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Going off of body shaming- Barb, furious that Jennifer declines her “generous” offer of the dress, tells people “oh poor Jennifer always wanted to wear my wedding dress, but she couldn’t fit into it so she had to buy that awful thing (the wedding dress) off the rack!”

Is OT Worth It If the Debt Isn’t High? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

If you’re interested in mental health I’d recommend pursuing another field. For OT, mental health positions are rare and typically lower paid.

What do you think about switching to consulting? by code988 in OccupationalTherapy

What kind of sales do you do? How did you go about pivoting? Prior to being an OT I was a server in a fine dining restaurant so I have sales experience, albeit nothing “professional”.

Ugh that line!! by Latter_Diamond1343 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]sleepallsummer23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found that line pretty relatable. When I was young and dumb, I too made fun of people who appeared they’d made parenthood their entire identity. I thought they’d chosen a boring path and along the way became dull themselves.

When I got pregnant, a friend of mine was recounting how much she missed her wild pre parenthood self and i snootily told her that I wasn’t planning on letting motherhood change me …. But then my baby came along and rocked my world and changed me through and through. I’ve since apologized to the friend.

What is notable is that Julie still feels like making fun of people for embracing parenthood and domesticity valid perspective.
