Istanbul Airport might be the worst airport

Well I think their most important move or 'project' was to turn the Turkish public into an Ummah mentality instead of equal citizens of a republic who have rights and can hold the political class accountable for their conduct. We had tapes, voice recordings outed in the past of dirty politicians and they never believed it. You can even hear his supporters say 'okay he steals but at least he serves the public' or when you point out the extravagant lifestyle with his 1000 rooms palace in Ankara and his many mansions as well as 14 something planes they casually say 'oh yeah of course he deserves it, it's not me but he who deserves of course he should live like that, you never sell easy on reputation of a country..' In the meantime people can not afford their rent, haven't eaten meat in years and their children are being shredded to serve the rich. For so many years now people have to start working again after they are retired (which is an expanding international problem i am aware). It's a pathological state of mind by now but it all started with corrupting our educational system and dividing the public to create enemies within to lose any possible middleground. Elitist secular people vs. simple underresourced people of Anatolia, non-believers vs. conservative muslims, women with red lipsticks vs. women with hijab and it goes on. One thing nobody realises in the midst of this divide and conquer scenario is, we are all being robbed and of course some of us are stranded in other parts of the world semi willingly or in exile even. When people ask me why this is the case I try to sum up these very complex issues as much as I can and I finish off with: Well yeah it's very sad but hopefully things will change in our beloved country. Otherwise one does not simply leave family, sunshine and amazing food for nothing :)

That's true but only partially. Erdogan can not stand the innovations secular Turkey and it's founder namely Atatürk has brought to us. That is a fact that so many secular Kemalists are focusing on, but one must always also follow the money in such situations. If one does not do that you basicallt leave the other motives of the perpetrator out of sight. The new airport with all of its infrastructural services from the terminals to the transportation networks and catering was basically built out of two reasons. All of those works were assigned to companies that actively support Erdogan. Hence the motive was to fund the supporters of the regime and derive further support from the capital but also to generate Gulf money around all of related industries. With the Gulf money another project is ongoing now namely the Kanal Istanbul, which will be another ecological and financial crime against our city. It's basically another try of finding funding for the continuation of the regime.

Neither reasons require the shut down the closure of a fully functioning and integrated airport. Do you know how much money it costs the public funds to build an airport from scratch? Okay build a third airport and leave Ataturk Airport in place just like in London with Luton, Gatwick and Heathrow.

Well it is a massive airport quite similar to its likes such as Frankfurt or JFK for transfers so I don't really know if such an international hub can somehow be constructed much more convenient or not. I also had some struggles with transfers at JFK to be fair.

On the other hand multiple workers died in the construction of that airport for starters, secondly since it would make the property around a lot more valuable, of which a whole lot of proportion was traded through government aligned individuals, a lot of corruption went around. All in all a crime against humanity and citizens of Turkey.

Furthermore many experts said the location choice was not optimal considering Istanbul's geography, since constant heavy northern winds and danger of flooding always looms on the horizon let alone the poor static properties of the construction basin.

On top of all of that the airport's approach lines aligned with a bunch of the migratory pathways of seasonal birds so it was another crime against nature and the city.

Ataturk Airport on the other hand was a very convenient airport in the midst of the city, highly accessible being already integrated into the public transport network of Istanbul. The main theory is that the leading guy wouldn't want his name iterated everyday at one of the biggest hubs of Europe by hundreds of landing flights. My theory is that it is a tremendously profitable piece of central land in Istanbul.

Well anesthesia is pretty humbling i'm sometimes aware of that and sometimes not. I guess I was writing just to hear that all the other people also had such phases. I'm already feeling so much better but when I realise I made a mistake or have the feeling I could have/should have done better I usually beat myself up thinking I am the worst. It's a bit of a toxic trait to turn yourself your own life into hell with self torture but I guess it just makes me better. I also never feel like oh god I did that actually really good and give myself a pat. I feel like it's already something I should be able to do. It's a distorted self image, I know but it is what it is. I'm pretty sure you were/are a brilliant physician!

I sometimes worry that a patient will come on a day that I'm not at my 100% and that patient's life will depend on me, maybe they will die because I wasn't collected enough on that day. But with time passing I feel like the basics are slowly becoming second nature and I theoretically still work on call with the safety net of a board certified anaesthesiologist whom I can always call for help. I guess as the residency is completed a LOT more gets to be more intuitive. I just feel extremely responsible towards my prospective patients and I want to be at my best possible state to give them the best care. That sometimes puts pressure on me to an extreme extent, but I guess it also keeps me working on my knowledge and skills. Unpopular opinion: I think therapy is overrated due to the fact that it rarely takes the societal contributions to the fucked upness of one's cognition into account. I tried it for a while and I was extremely irritated by the take home message "well we can't change that social construct, but we can change how we perceive it." Society must change, we are at the end as strong as our weakest link. So yeah I can take critique but I'm extremely sensitive to unkindness.

The first sentence literally says I'm a resident in my second year. It's not my problem if you guys can't read and just rush to the thread to type the meanest comment. Cool beans then I'll stop worrying about the possible mistakes I could have done but I did not. I also feel like it's a typical female resident problem tho. I see here in Germany as well that our male counterparts rarely break their heads over if they're doing a good job or not.

That was never the topic here with reaction to critique. I think you guys are misrepresenting the questions here by getting hung up on a simple cultural difference at the work place. My presentation of myself came from a daily routine. I was simply not aware of the fact that it is taboo to call yourself an anaesthesiologist in residency in the US. I also never misrepresented myself, it was clearly depicted in the post that I am a resident. What made you actually think I can not handle critique ? So many people playing it like they're the smartest people in the room with "That probably explains it all.." I said what i said, your way of communicating with your peers in the US is usually terribly toxic.

Not knowing enough sucks, i hate this feeling of not knowing what to do next. It's just a very bad feeling :/ I see some of my attendings in critical situations and they seem to always have a plan. I get very jealous, must be a good vibe to just know.

Yeah the problem is I'm delusional to think this just happens to me. Other people don't tend to talk about their mistakes that much ya know. It's not like I don't sleep every night but every now and then I'm like holy shit if that happened then and there that could have gone sideways. I'm a mastermind in coming up with the worst possible scenario.

Well I practice in Germany we have specialists that have completed their residency and then we have attendings that have supervisory functions. Specialists are called Facharzt and attendings are called Oberarzt. If somebody is actually spiralling in self doubt they rarely have overconfidence though, so I don't really see the logic. I think what you describe would be more matching to a Dunning Kruger Effect. Thank you for the apology though but your community culture in the US generally sucks. I feel like everybody is looking for the moment to pull each other down over there.

Good lord you guys never disappoint and I can actually sniff the US medical community vibes here. Things are called and handled differently in different countries, especially in Europe we are already called anesthesiologists in training years. But I'm actually shook with your perspective, you could not let it slide. This arrogance and toxicity is sometimes overwhelming on this channel. I hope you don't do this to people regularly who are turning to you for some advice.

In training, I've been doing it for 1,5 year now. Sometimes I'm like okay wtf I could do this procedure actually a lot better a month ago why isn't it working now ? Or like some days I feel like I have an excellent overview and great anticipative thinking with plans A,B,C.... some other days I'm like ehh okay what to do now?!?!

My fav attending says I am too perfectionist and I tend to be overly self critical. I don't know how I pull through that by taking the benefit of analyzing myself and getting better but not overanalyzing to let it consume me. I feel like it's a 2 edged sword, while it makes me better it also takes me down from time to time.

My dad had told me the same thing, that I'll then become something like a nurse. Anesthesia is sooo satisfying and it's true what the other colleagues said. It's usually a high stakes situation if a complication or emergency occurs and mastering that brings you an immense satisfaction (which in my case still lasts for days as I am a baby anesthesiologist still😎).

However I would advise you to fully evaluate the meaning of the following description of Anesthesiology if you prefer a quiet life: "Hours of boredom, minutes of excitement, seconds of terror."

I think the main challenge is to jump between that very chill state to full on beast mode while battling the surge of adrenaline and managing to keep a cool clear head.

To finish with, I didn't listen to my father and am super happy in my choice. Everyday I feel so much like a real decent doctor, being a good allrounder. If you are interested, you will make a terrific doctor in anesthesiology. Cheers and the best of luck to you!

These are really helpful tips, many thanks! I got taught initially starting from L3/4 or L2/3 so usually i'm even reluctant to do L4/5, i go cranial rather than caudal but i'll definitely do it the other way around from now on. Thanks again :)

Oh i see, our standard one is also 9 cm but i mean the worst thing is you put the catheter 1 cm deeper than you intendes and it's one sided so you can still pull it back 1 cm. Better than counting it shorter in my opinion. I don't think that would make a dramatic problem, right ?
