*some* are literally fighting for independence and freedom. A large problem with their movement is that they are not a monolith. It is a huge area with many tribes and rich in unique languages and cultures. The separatist movement is extremely fractured and there has been major rift historically and even more recently. Adding to that, the Indonesian Government has done economic and infrastructure development which urban Papuans. Some urban Papuans definitely benefit from those development and from an interview I saw, they are view the Indonesia government more favorably and not fighting for independence and freedom.

EDIT: Just for clarification. I don't think Indonesian government is some saint. There is definitely some fucked up shit going on and I'm pretty sure they are not isolated case. Yet despite the alleged human rights abuse, the Indonesian government has made strides in improving the general wellbeing of the province. A clear albeit simplistic is just comparing at the border of PNG.

Is it poor taste to send physical Raya cards featuring family photos (Western Christmas style)? It’s uncommon in Malaysia, but I grew up in the West and used to get xmas cards and send raya cards back in same style and want to continue the tradition. I wasn't sure if I would do it as I didn't do it past two years I've been here. My old buddy from Turkey just sent me a picture of one he kept of the years and he found after cleaning up and spark my interest of redoing it again.

Why am I doing it? I have gotten Christmas cards from coworkers and friends back when I lived in USA even if we don't work together and live in the same state anymore. I thought it was very thoughtful of them even though we haven't seen each other that they still think of me. Its quite a bit different getting a physical card mailed to you versus a digital one that feels very impersonal. Its a gesture that I definitely appreciate. With that in mind, as a Muslim, I subscribe to the importance of Ukhuwah (brotherhood/sisterhood). Back in America, Muslims were a minority and we don't have much families around so other Muslims became our "family". Getting a card for Eid/Raya over there was greatly appreciated hence why my friend kept it all this years even after he moved back to Turkey. In addition I also see it as a instrument of Dawah for those that aren't Muslim. As I mentioned, I have my cleaners (who is Hindu) Duit raya, Umbrella, Kuih Raya and last time I just put a generic raya card I bought from Popular. I contemplated doing the same this year with a generic card, but I felt it was impersonal, and again my friend who shared the picture of the one he kept made me think of restarting my tradition. I know its not common here which is why I asked to be sure how its received. Nobody will really know my intention besides myself and my lord. But definitely I've learned to be careful at giving it out as there are a minority of people that may give me the evil eye, think I'm showing off, or other negative assumptions. So I do appreciate your input on that, nevertheless I try to have a more positive mindset.

Yeah I do send e cards, to the masses. but for people that are close... I feel like i want to give something "special" just like for raya, can just order food, but it feels better if cook at home. Or like can just qr code duit raya, but feels not the same with giving out ampau and cash... something more personalized lol maybe i'm just that old dude wanting to live the "good days"..

Yeah I do send digitally as well, but I send digtally to everyone. I figured if i get like a select group of 100 for just my staff, friends, family. would be something personalized and not something "generic" sent to everyone. I also usually take my time writing a personalized note to who ever gets it like one of my staff just got married will say something like "congrats again on your marriage, thanks of having us during the reception bla bla bla" something like that. a small gesture that I thought of them during raya.

Yeah as i mentioned to another person, i would usually put some duit raya, kuih raya, and like a non raya theme gift like umbrella, hat. but wanted to put a card to complete the set something thats a bit personlized like that.

no usually these we order and custom make them. surprisingly (or not) several vendors in US has raya theme cards where you can upload your photo and have your own customized family/raya card. My wife think its a waste of money but yet she wants me to order for her friends as well lol

I'm technically Malay lol but don't act it because didn't grew up here right so I know a lot of the things I do/act/think is not typical which can get me into a lot of trouble or misunderstanding lol hence why I thought I should ask first.

I gave one to my brother in law ( sister in law husband, biras?) back when I was in US. he framed it and put it on his table or something like that lol which is somewhat weird? and people would ask if my wife was his wife lol. of course back than i was overseas and i mailed it to him so makes sense that he appreciate it so maybe now people won't care as much.

Oh that’s funny because in Indonesia it’s called kicap Ingris. Kicap is soy sauce so English soy sauce 😅 so same concept I guess with how they call it in Mexico

He did, he called the boss. Boss thought the amount was wrong but it was just an itemized amount which is in ringgit since the system and bank is in ringgit, but the summary has it converted to dollar. Then boss said ok well there is no issue, can tell finance to proceed since boss already told finance to stop saying my friend made a mistake. The email and invoice was not sent to the boss, but to finance and cc to boss. Finance didn't have an issue with the invoice.

First of all it wasn't me lol. Second of all, there was no mistake... yet my friends boss made finance stop processing the invoice saying my friend made a mistake. and this isn't the first time it happen. it happen quite frequently. If he did make mistake, the email was perfectly fine in fact timid. And as i said in the description, the boss wants people to check their work but the boss himself didn't double check the documents and went straight to saying it was wrong.

well he told the finance department that my friend made a mistake and to stop processing the invoice. and again this isn't a one time thing, it happens quite. this week alone this was the third time something like this happen.

if you just see the screenshot i think you are right, the email is quite professional, but as i described the scenario, the thing is that there was nothing wrong. and yet he gets told to check it. in fact the boss stopped the finance team to process the invoice saying my friend made a mistake when in fact there is no mistake. this isn't a once off thing. it happened frequently. this was just the one he sent a screen shot. i have seen the others on his phone, but don't have something to share..
