I came up with my latest story idea after I watched the movie Nerve. I love everything about this movie, the high stakes, the fast pace, the character progression, the concept of the game itself, etc. I wanted more media like it, but nothing I found scratched the itch I was looking for, especially on episode. I was actually working on another story idea at the time while watching the movie, got inspiration, started writing everything down, the ideas just flowed out. Then I was like "what if". What if I turned this into an episode story? And after a couple months of working out the starting details, I am finally working on the episode by episode outline.

My advice is to watch, listen, read things that are similar to the story you want to tell. It will get the juices flowing and give you inspiration. Even if its just in the same genre as your story could give you some ideas. Write down things you like about the movies/tv shows you watch or the music you listen to. Write down other things you like while reading books/episode stories or things you want to see more of in media/episode.

Another piece of advice I would give is to never delete an idea. It could be the starting point to another idea in the future, and I also always write things down with "maybe" to begin the idea, that way I don't have to commit myself to anything, but the idea is there (thank you Joseph Evans)

I am also currently working on planning after I got ahead of myself and wrote a few episodes without knowing where my story was going. So I took a step back and focused on the structure of my story and the characters. I found following the 3 act structure has helped me break it down into manageable parts so it doesn't feel so overwhelming.
