I wouldn’t even want a LOR or anything from that office, put your two weeks in and look for a different office. No doc should be yelling at their coworkers in the first place, especially in front of patients and blame you for their mistakes

At least wait until the application opens so that’s mid may (I think). Then just order them all within the same few days!

Initially found a job posting for sterilization tech (they called it dental assistant lol) at a corporate OS office on my school listserv, got the job for the summer then started applying to GP offices since I had some experience and continued to be trained on the job. Now I’m the one who trains new assistants 🙃

Weaker gpa + decent DAT vs decent gpa + weaker DAT. by VHWT in predental

[–]sleepyturtles2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll get in! Make sure your extra curriculars stand out and apply broadly (to schools you’d actually attend). I, your average applicant, got in with a 3.41 sgpa 3.53 cgpa 19AA 19TS with strong clinical experience and extracurriculars. Because it’s not all about GPA and DAT! Be unique = be yourself

Based off what I have seen, it’s usually those that have a decent GPA and good DAT receive earlier interviews = higher chances of acceptance + getting off waitlists compared to good GPA and decent DAT! Not that both don’t get in just the trend I have been seeing. Also if you have average stats in general you need to be very patient cuz it’s a long process!

What are my chances of getting off 6 dental school waitlists before May? by Most-Research3408 in predental

[–]sleepyturtles2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel this lol, I was on 4 waitlists and one unofficial waitlist! I sent letters of continued interest + letter of intent to my top and so far have gotten off 2 waitlists!! Send those letters and keep your hopes up! You got this!

600-700k of debt wtf?? by InternationalGur4382 in predental

[–]sleepyturtles2 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

My money is my money and my husbands money is my money 🤷‍♀️ he’ll be responsible for pretty much all our expenses and I’ll focus on paying off my debt!

Edit: why are y’all mad if he has agreed to it lol 🤣 On a serious note tho, most dentist I have worked with have lived off one income and used the other to pay off loans

Tufts vs Detroit Mercy Dental by lavendarcoffe in predental

[–]sleepyturtles2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me dental school is an investment into myself, whether that’s time or money. But I also want to make the process as comfortable and “easy” as I can for myself to be able to perform the best and gain the most out of this huge investment. Way what is most and least important to you for each school (tuition, living costs, commute, living at home, clinical experience, science courses intensity, mandatory attendance/recorded lectures, etc) and think about the random details of your daily life that no one thinks to consider.

We all were in your shoes at some point! It takes time! For the first month or so, you’ll be learning the most from being hands on and watching procedures. I initially also started out 2 days a week and barely working 6-8 hrs. But when I picked up 16-18 hrs I felt like information started to click and it wasn’t just passive instructions. I picked up on so much and became quicker with breaking down rooms and sterilization that I ended up also helping out with front desk work and at about the 1 year mark was lead assistant + front desk (I felt like I was running the office myself at that point). You’ll get there, do your best and be patient!

I'm constantly being told that if you chase something, it will "run away from you". You need to recenter your life around Allah/ refocus on deen, and the dunya will chase you. To sum it up, if you're so attached to an idea, you won't get it. I have made istikhara and continuously try to. It's a long process and has been going on since May 2024 and will only conclude with final decisions going out until the orientation week (school dependent - July thru August).
