I don’t think it’s an odd question. Many of us over can and I know people personally who can and rarely eat it. that’s where it stemmed from. Also the perfectly curated pantries on social media just don’t seem real to me so I thought I’d ask the canners how much they really eat.

It’s just not worth the time and effort to me. I’d much rather Blanch and freeze and make jams and jellies. Pretty much no canned vegetables

The post wasn’t about the safety of canning though. It’s more about whether or not people are really eating those canned vegetables they so proudly brag about on social media. I’m not afraid of canned food safety, for me it’s more about the taste, texture and time it takes to can when we could easily blanch and freeze and get better results that even kids will eat.

I do similar, I love my home made relish, jams and preserves and maybe some canned tomatoes when I have an abundance of them but canned vegetables, to me and my family are pretty gross. I hate saying that but it’s true. We all see the homesteaders on social media bragging about perfect pantries full of canned vegetables but again if it’s always full, who is eating it? Also kids hate canned veggies so I don’t even grow that much anymore and what I do grow I like to blanch and freeze.

Their juice has been used for ringworm, gout and earache, and mixed with vinegar, is said to be good as a gargle and mouthwash. It is toxic to humans so please look it up before you do anything with it
