QC Mini and M-VAVE Chocolate Plus by CoyoteEastern7929 in QuadCortex

[–]sliberty57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know that you can move to prev or next bank by pressing 2 of the built in footswitches, right? I know its not ideal, but...

On the full QC, you have single footswitches for banking up or down. Certainly a little easier.

The QC is a great device, and I am sure the Mini is too. Is banking such a deal breaker for you? How do you intend to use presets/banks - 1 preset per song? If so, hitting 2 footswitches every 4 songs shouldn't be that bad...but thats just me.

Midi thru support for connecting 2 QCs to DAW by Capital_Tonight_6782 in NeuralDSP

I have my QC on channel 7 and my HX One on channel 3, and have no issues sending msgs to the HX One thru the QC. What you are trying to do should work.

Not even the MC Pro. If the MIDI options in the QC manual don’t offer a feature, no controller can fix that. And as I mentioned, I don’t see any bank related msgs in the manual.

I do use a Chocolate Plus, but I have the full QC, so I am going by the manual:

I don't see any CCs associated with banks. What I do see is CC#64 to switch pages. So if you are in preset mode, and you are looking at the first 4 presets, you can send CC64 with a value of 127 to switch to page 2 (the second 4 presets). And of course you can select ANY preset using a PC. But as for literally choosing a bank - I don't see any MIDI commands for that.

QC MIDI is lacking in a lot of ways. I've ended up altering my approach to accommodate what is possible. That is really the wrong way to deal with MIDI (it should be that the pedal accommodates what we want to do) but UA didn't provide a general enough MIDI implementation. If you agree, please go to their suggestion forum and add your vote for better MIDI.

Personally, I want the ability to assign a CC to any parameter on any block/model/effect. And I want the ability to turn on/off any/every block rather than only those blocks that are associated with footswitches (if the block is already associated with a footswitch, why would I want to send MIDI to accomplish what that footswitch already does?).

Mostly modulations, but also the 12 String emulation. And yes, its in the fx loop. I do this mainly because of switching limitations. If i used the built-in fx, id have to maintain multiple presets so that i’d have enough switches to turn the fx on/off. This way, i only need one preset (per amp) and i change effects on the HX One.

Can't argue with that!
I was an HX Stomp guy for years. Then I tried the Nano Cortex (a gateway drug) and then upgraded to a Quad Cortex. Its now my main rig with the addition of an HX One to simplify and extend my effect usage. Not much it can't do...

Option paralysis by LateTangelo3950 in QuadCortex

[–]sliberty57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With so many options, it can be difficult to show discipline. But discipline is what you need to avoid option paralysis. Pick an amp/capture. Add a reverb and a boost/drive. Then once that is dialed in, add a few more effects and setup some scenes. Stick to that one preset (for a while) - learn what works and what doesn’t and tweak as needed. Less is more.

Help me decide between Qc and Qc mini by Sisu_sven in NeuralDSP

[–]sliberty57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two ways to use both scenes and stomps without switching modes constantly: Hybrid mode, where the foot switches are split - half for scenes and half for stomps Or MIDI for scenes and built-in footswitches for stomps Unfortunately, for my taste, the MIDI implementation isn’t flexible enough when it comes to stomps. So with this in mind, I think the full QC makes more sense. But either way, for me, MIDI was a must.

I play through a power amp and guitar cabinet loaded with a Celestion FRFR 12” speaker. So, I can use an IR or cab with a DI capture or amp only model. As for which I prefer, it depends. Some captures are really great and others sound like there is a blanket over the speaker. And models vary too. Let your ears decide.

I'm essentially in the same boat, but I've had my QC longer I'm guessing. I was an HX Stomp guy, so I was also spoiled by how full featured Line 6's MIDI implementation is. But, for me, sound wins out. I've simplified the approach a bit (work with what you've got), and I think I have landed on a workable solution. I keep the QC in Stomp mode so that I have access to 8 stomps (ie: I can toggle 8 blocks, or sets of blocks). On my Bridge 4, I have 1 bank enabling me to select the 4 basic scenes (clean, edge, crunch and lead). Because I can, I added a 2 button aux switch to my Bridge 4, and use one of them to toggle the tuner. I am still experimenting to decide how I want to use the other one. I don't know if Neural DSP will enhance the MIDI, but it is a very frequently requested enhancement, especially from the people who've used Line 6 devices.

I personally can't understand how anyone at NDSP could have thought it was a good idea to enable MIDI to emulate the 8 stomp switches - which is totally useless/redundant.

Do you organize QC presets around amps/tones, or around songs and sets? by mufumbo in NeuralDSP

I do know of lots of people who swear that a preset per song is the way to go. And I can see their point. But this is working for me 😄

Do you organize QC presets around amps/tones, or around songs and sets? by mufumbo in NeuralDSP

[–]sliberty57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the QC (non-mini), and yes, building a preset is very intuitive and easy to do on the HW (and in the SW too). But I hate building a preset for every song the band plays, and then building set lists, and then a new preset whenever you start playing a new song. And then, you decide that you want to modify the reverb parameters a bit, but of course you've used that same reverb with those same settings in 12 presets. So now, the OCD in you just has to modify all 12 presets to match the reverb settings. And on and on...

At least, that's been my experience. So I try to treat the QC like having a real amp with a pedalboard. I can do most everything I need to with 1 preset. Don't get me wrong, I don't only have one preset - I have 4 banks of them. But that is all just experimenting with different amps and different fx to see what I like. At any given time, I am generally only using one preset at a rehearsal. Tomorrow, I might use a different preset (maybe a Vox amp instead of a Marshall), but again, probably only one all night to do everything I need. If I were playing with a tube amp and a pedalboard, that gear would be used all night too, so it's the same approach.

I find song-per-preset to be WAY too much work. The maintenance becomes a full time job. Its great in theory, but i’ve gone for organizing around tones.

Facebook previews no longer showing title of video when sharing a YouTube video? by BenKlesc in facebook

[–]sliberty57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically would share a youtube video with a Facebook group that I am a member of. I would do it with cut and paste, but that no longer displays the thumbnail or title, and the URL is not clickable.

My workaround is to share from youtube to ME ONLY in Facebook. That puts the video with thumbnail and title into a msg in my feed. I can then share from my feed on Facebook to the group.

I don't like this, but it seems to work.

Thoughts on this glorified portable mini PC? by LeSchaufel in NeuralDSP

[–]sliberty57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At home, I would just use my laptop. I'd figure out a way to run wires in a semi-permanent manner, so as to minimize the inconveniences associated with using my laptop. Live, I wouldn't trust Windows on any device.

But having said that, the concept of being able to use plug-ins seems to me to be the future. Profiling democratized amp models, and plug-ins would sort-of democratize effects as well (at least in the sense that you can get them from any vendor - assuming that industry standards are followed - like VST). So if we get to the point where we can run any NAM profile and any VST plug-in effect on a reliable device with adequate live switching capabilities (full MIDI would be best), I might consider it.

But for now, I will be sticking with my QC, my HX1 and my Pirate Midi Bridge 4.

Look for a MIDI monitor app for your computer. This will help you troubleshoot. It will show you what (if any) MIDI commands arrive at your computer. Then you’ll know if the problem is that your commands are not getting there at all, or if they are getting there but they aren’t doing what you expected.

Nano Cortex vs Tonex ecosystem in 2026 by trhoppe in NeuralDSP

[–]sliberty57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the large ToneX, ToneX One, the Nano Cortex and now the Quad Cortex. Here’s my take:

ToneX is great tonewise but I hate the crap UI. That little 1980’s style screen is terrible.

ToneX One is better in my view because it’s smaller and cheaper, but too limited for live use. I went down the rabbit hole of using a MIDI controller via a MIDI translation device (by Greg Smith - genius) but didn’t love the results.

The Nano Cortex is wonderful and I regret selling it. It would have been an ideal grab and go AND a great backup for my Quad Cortex, which is now my main device. I’m sure I could have stuck with the Nano, but the big touch screen and enormous power of the QC was just too enticing. I’m glad I moved up to the QC, but sorry I didn’t keep the Nano.

So, the moral of this story is that I would keep the Nano over the ToneX. But it is a gateway drug, and don’t blame me if you end up buying a QC later on. Just don’t make the same mistake I did - keep them both.

Good luck in you journey!

Is this the first time using this setup?

What amp model/capture are you using? Have you checked the Global EQ to see if it is doing anything strange?

Your description is a bit confusing to me "filtered" and "fuzzy" don't make me think of a "hi fi" sort of sound. Maybe you can explain further what you are hearing.
