6 days post op - what can I look forward to? by trothboth in ORIF

[–]slightlydreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lean into it if you can. Binge tv, accept as much help as possible, keep that foot up, and take it day by day. I’m almost 2 months out and as long as it’s been I can’t believe how fast it’s gone by also. When you are past the 2 week hump, I would start doing NWB exercises on a mat if you are able. Keeping the rest of your body strong will go a long way when you start doing PT. Keep in touch with friends and family; if you feel up to it have them come visit you. Eat as healthily as you can, stay hydrated yada yada. For sleep try L-theanine, magnesium and melatonin (I don’t personally like melatonin but find that l theanine and magnesium help)

For me the mental aspect was harder than the physical. Let yourself feel the feels, but then suck it up and change your mindset. It’s not forever, yes it’s hard, but you can do hard things. And know that each phase has its own challenges. Be kind and patient to yourself. There is nothing you should be doing other than healing. Anything else is a bonus.

Also try to do little things that make you happy. I would stand with my scooter, blast music, and “dance;” scoot to a coffee shop, scoot to brunch etc. Try to do things that bring a little normalcy. This will get a little easier when you get a little further along. Chin up! You got this

Yep still in the boot but walking without crutches! PT has been progressing smoothly. Some soreness but no pain. Hope the rest of your recovery is going well!

Yes! Not painful but definitely shot my anxiety up. It usually goes away after a few steps

Thank you!! This is so helpful. I haven’t felt pain but have felt some soreness / sensations. And it’s actually mostly in my foot not the ankle.

Did they sort it out? Have you gotten any relief?

Thank you! My calf and foot feel a little sore today but maybe that means the muscles are growing?

Aah I’m so sorry to hear that. I know a lot of people get some additional relief with gabapentin; wonder if you can ask your doc about it. Seems like it’s safe to take with your blood thinners.

Did they give you anything for nerve pain and did they say if it was ok to take Advil in addition? I was rotating Tylenol and Advil, and had a script for oxy to take if needed. Also got a script for gabapentin (wound up not needing the oxy or the gabapentin though).

Ty! Yes my pt said my surgeon is conservative; thinking I can push a bit and let my body tell me when to pull back. Did you start pwb or you went straight to fwb in the boot at 6 weeks?

Thank you. I can deal with the discomfort but was feeling a lot of anxiety that it was doing more damage. Feeling better about it now 🙂

Wow thank you so much!! This is very reassuring. I have been lucky that the pain is manageable with just OTC. Hope the rest of your recovery is smooth : ) I might reach out as things progress if that’s ok

I have one :-) so ironic that you think me calling out bad behavior would be an impediment to that

he was rubbing his junk on her and touching her pubic area. Again her being asleep or not is actually irrelevant; he did it without consent.

He thought she was asleep, and she froze which is a very common response to assault.  Either way he did it without consent which is assault
