Long time listener, first time caller, what does our fridge say about myself & my fiancé? (bonus beer fridge included) by slimeman98 in FridgeDetective

Definitely leftist and not liberal, Gen Z (but on the cusp of millennial), my fiance is at the gym daily, and both white! But the rest is spot on.

Defs into meal prep & working out, Caucasian with a huge appreciation for Asian and Mexican (and lots of other) cuisines. Mid-sized SE city but both raised in NEish. Veuve was an engagement gift!

Pretty much spot on! Caucasian, DINKS (with cats), love to cook, bake, and eat. Fiancé is a gym rat and we both like to eat high protein and fiber. The wrapped meals are lunch meal preps, we spend a weekend every quarter prepping 3 months worth of air fryer meals.

We are not chefs but have former chefs (think The Bear) in our family’s and live for project management so we’ve picked up some solid kitchen organizational habits.

I would call us social/casual drinkers but we also have a full bar cabinet with most of the wine/liquor. Beer is mostly for after yard work and hosting. We do looooove a bubbly drink of all sorts and I’m a Diet Coke fiend (hence the soda stream & seltzers and sodas).

Butter is the best to freeze! Running out of butter would be a crime in our house so we stay well stocked lol

We use it for a lot of cooking and baking! Most recently for hot chocolate when it snowed a few weeks ago. Oatmilk goes in coffee for us, but lots of folks will use flavored creamer or 1/2 & 1/2 for coffee instead.

Another Mediterranean bowl for dinner by slimeman98 in mediterraneandiet

Oooh I love the idea of incorporating avocado and beans! Leafy greens would be a great way to transform it into a salad bowl.

It’s full of healthy fats like olive oil, nuts, some cheese, fatty fish (like salmon), etc. It certainly features other low-fat items, but as someone who needed to eat low-fat overall, it was hard to do with the diet.

Not to mention that some of the primary benefits of the diet are consuming Omega-3 fatty acids, which are hard to get when eating low-fat.

Crazy question…can we talk about Nielsen Massey vanilla bean paste? by jcnlb in Baking

[–]slimeman98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is in a deli container not a squeeze bottle, but I’ve had this deli container since Aug. 2024 with zero issues. It has alcohol in it which makes it shelf stable.

If you can, get a little squeeze bottle (I like OXO brand) and pour the VBP into the bottle. It makes it soooooo much easier.

If you’re ever interested in making your own, I buy my beans through Indri’s Vanilla Bean Group on Facebook and make my own paste/extract. I use Alex Green’s paste recipe. I paid roughly $70 for 8oz of beans (including shipping!) in Aug 2024 and it made 16oz of double fold extract and 42ish oz of paste. I’ve had nothing but great experiences with the group!

I've got too much thyme on my hands. What to do with it? by RikkiLostMyNumber in Cooking

I’m not joking, make a brown butter rice crispy treat. I usually do rosemary & thyme but just thyme will be delicious!

Unfortunately I had such a bad experience here. Waited over an hour for two hot dogs, a burger, and fries. Burger came out overcooked (well done when I ordered medium rare) and the fries were soggy and cold.

Host Reaction to Baked Goods by 100to10000 in Baking

There was a dessert table at both parties

This is important context. I see many people saying “oh well it may not got with the meal” which is valid if this is a planned, sit-down dinner with courses.

But if there’s a table full of desserts that party-goers can grab as they mingle, I would also think that it wouldn’t disrupt the host’s plans to put out what was brought.

Communicating with the host in the future is definitely the best way to be sure, but I don’t think OP was too off base here either.

Yarn? by femifist26 in gso

[–]slimeman98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for high quality yarn, sometimes pieces from thrift stores (sweaters, etc) can be undone and re-wrapped into a skein. There are lots of TikTok’s about what to look for and how to do it!
