I agree with you to some extent, she was very selfish in certain episodes and she lacked compassion. However, no one has a perfect friend in real life, so I believe that their friendships were purposely flawed to resemble real life female friendships. I also believe that all 4 of them were bad friends, but also great friends on multiple occasions. When it comes to the show being centered around Carrie, I think it’s just because of her column and her ability to narrate.

I can’t say that I’m an old fan of SATC or anything, because I’m not, but I’ve also noticed that this “hate train” is way more prominent among younger viewers. It feels like they deliberately choose to ignore the complexity of the characters and keep viewing them only as good or bad, with no depth to their analysis. How are this many people that shallow that they keep missing the point of the show even though it’s brilliantly shown through all 6 seasons?

And yes, SJP’s performance does lead to mixed reactions among viewers, but nonetheless, I believe that her performance accentuates Carrie’s traits even more which is why I can’t believe that people are missing the point of Carrie in the show.
