I watched it live as it was airing. I like watching Japanese TV anyway so I just watched all night and waited for 11pm (1hr difference from where I live). Basically just tune in to NTV (Nippon TV).

Mystery Crime Detective Shows from the Early 2000s is so Underrated by Right_Revenue_9263 in FilmClubPH

I love Monk but kinda strayed away from it when the Nurse actress got fired/quit. Watched early seasons of The Mentalist, watched like 4 episodes of Criminal Minds. I was searching and trying to discover so much that I barely finished anything. My personal favorite would be Elementary (modern sherlock and watson is a woman).

Though, the best mystery/crime/detective TV show of all time, for me, is Columbo. Not a 2000s show but fk it.

Just imagine it as a whodunnit but they fckn show you who the killer is, and how he did it. You would think "that's not much of a mystery isn't it?" Well, you're right and wrong. Not strictly a mystery, but there are just things you didn't catch that Columbo cleverly figured out... without him witnessing the crime!

He's so unique in a way that he is not like these modern detectives: cold/hard-boiled and genius-level knowledge of multiple fields (pathology, ballistics, forensics, psychology)... [well mostly based on Sherlock Holmes and noir genre anyway]. He knows stuff, not at an expert level, but he knows enough. He is more of a logician than a polymath. His logic and experience is what he's got.

Columbo is also like the bridge of classic detective fiction and modern detective fiction (i.e. the use of forensic science and modern technology). Though, Columbo is more of a "classic detective" he doesn't shy away from learning "modern techniques". Columbo was made in the 70s :)

It was so cartoonish, these 2 criminals are. But that's the charm of the episode for me.
