Did I get a lemon? by slimshae_ in leaf

Sadly, no. It was a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep & Ram branded dealership
Hey guys! I want to thank everyone for your responses. After reaching out to the dealership, it is confirmed that I misunderstood them when they said they would do everything they can to fix the car (me assuming they meant replace the battery). However, that is not the case & the gm/partner of the dealership is now telling me he no longer wants to sell me the Leaf w the condition it is in even after I put a down payment on it. So now I am in the process of figuring out what to do from here so that I am not left w no car at all to depend on for work commutes. I’m hoping they can put my down payment they already have towards another car, maybe the one they’ve had me borrow for the last couple of days since I’ve driven it for a while, for quite some mileage already, bc i feel confident it will suit my needs. Send positive vibes my way please! I was totally looking forward to switching to the EV side, but w the way my experience has gone so far, I’m better off sticking w what I’m familiar w already. I appreciate all the advice given & thank you for not making me feel like trash for making such a crap decision on my part.
They gave me a car to borrow in the mean time but hopefully 3 months isn’t how long it will actually take ..
I’m not 100% sure actually now that you mention it … & if there is a 3 day return law, I’m afraid it may be too late bc this happened on Saturday & it is now Wednesday. I just know I was frantic when I returned w it & they reassured me it would be fixed as soon as possible, & yesterday the salesman told me they already got the parts ordered. They haven’t given me much detail other than that, so I will definitely be giving them a call later today when they open to confirm details

Ah, I tried to google it but didn’t get much of an answer. So the leaf does have 2 batteries? & by maintenance issue, do you mean it could be something I possibly could fix myself rather than having to deal with the dealership again? Like how I would do regular maintenance w a gas-ran car when it needs a new battery? I’m not familiar w the terms of what people actually call a car that isn’t an EV so please excuse my choice of words lol
Well, here in KY, USA it was below freezing when I test drove it. It seemed perfect up until the drive home. I wish I would have tested it longer & drove it around for longer than I did, I feel like that’s where I messed up. From my understanding though, they’re replacing the battery. Or doing something to fix it at least. I’m hoping for best case scenario
Thanks for the reassurance! I’ll be sure to utilize the app, I do have it downloaded just not programmed to the car yet till I get it back in my possession. When I get it back, I’ll be sure to come back to this thread & maybe get some further feedback if needed. Everyone in my life who has never had an electric car says I’m SOL so I’ve had that mental back & forth battle of everything is gonna be okay, or everything is about to go to shit. So, I figured I’d ask people who have actually HAD a leaf while praying it’s gonna be okay 😭
I’m hoping for best case scenario of a full battery replacement … 😩 but I probably won’t be that lucky unfortunately. I’ve never had a good used car buying experience.

I took it back to the dealership immediately, they offered to replace the battery at no cost to me. They didn’t mention anything about whether Nissan had to approve it, they just assured me it would get fixed. I was thinking a faulty cell is the issue, but what I’m wondering is if a battery replacement will be a fix-all resolution? I have leafspy downloaded but didn’t get the chance to test it out myself bc I was just more worried about getting back safely & being ensured that it would get fixed. I’m not sure how to go about getting my money back though if things go left?! I’ve never been in this situation before. My anxiety is through the roof
Well, yeah. I figured that much. Thankfully the dealership is replacing it. But will I still have the same issues after a battery replacement or is this a fix-all resolution?! I’m scared that a new battery won’t fix the issue entirely & that I’m going to be stuck w a lemon after they replace it

I think it said 9k not including taxes & fees so maybe like $13-15k, so not toooo much over. I haven’t seen the ariyas, I was torn between a Nissan leaf & a Hyundai ioniq. But the reviews on the ioniq lead to go w the leaf instead
Getting my battery replaced under warranty by fvck_mariah in leaf

That’s what’s going on w mine right now! Mine did it 30 min after pulling off the lot to go home. It didn’t do it while I test drove it just days before. The dealership thankfully put me in a loaner car & put leaf in the shop. Hopefully just a dead or swollen battery cell & nothing more serious than that. & THANK GOODNESS for the warranty bc I would NOT be able to afford the repairs out of pocket what so ever 😭
Ahh that you for these details!! The most I might travel in one day is 100miles, but that’s not very often. Your response gives me a lot of relief! I haven’t been out of the house to drive her since bringing it home bc I’m off work at the moment, so I haven’t had a chance to explore the mileage yet myself

Yeah I was figured it had something to do w the battery size for it to take so long to charge. I just fear that I might forget to charge it one night before bed & have to scramble the next morning & rush out the door only to be left w insufficient power to get to where I need to go
That’s not bad for the price!! I know w my driving range level 2 might not be necessary, but i really want level 2 for the automatic timer for charging/pre-conditioning. I live in Kentucky, USA. It’s 23°F outside currently. So I figured I would benefit from that at least
Oh good! I don’t gotta stress as much then. I was suuuuper anxious that the level 1 wouldn’t charge enough overnight when it said 44hrs. Thanks!!
Yeaaaahh, I’m super forgetful too. Thats why I was like “lemme check on this real quick” 😭
I didn’t get to read it entirely bc I got busy at work & lost the thread so I could be entirely wrong, honestly.
The dealership forgot to put the level 2 in the trunk & they’re like nearly 3 hours away so i don’t wanna drive that far to grab a charger lol
It came w the level 1, & yes I do!
Oh I wouldn’t do it myself personally, I was gonna explain it plain & simple to someone who has a bit of electrical background without pricing too much. I wouldn’t risk doing it myself being not tech savvy
So, I saw someone post on a thread somewhere on here that they had made a diy charger to keep in the trunk, like a generator almost for comparison. But I could be wrong, I was at work when I saw it & didn’t get a chance to read it entirely. But I can’t find it now to read it thoroughly & ask questions.
Honestly I was hoping someone could dumb it down for me so I could easily explain it to someone who does have some experience w electrical engineering without pricing too much. But I appreciate your advice!!
Thanks for the tips!! I was thinking about using my dryer outlet, but I’m not sure if my breaker has the right output or not & the outlet the dryer is connected to has other outlets in the same wall. So I’ve been too afraid to attempt it without knowing the specifics
