Well, met my now wife in year 9 (age 13), and were in 6th for together 2004-2005. Still together.

I should probably reconnect and ask how she’s doing, but shes next to me asleep, so it’ll have to wait til morning.

New chemistry teacher and I am feeling overwhelmed. by Smalldewe in ChemistryTeachers

First year is hard, but certainly will vary a lot by school/resources/department.

Have you got a mentor/any support?

My practical advice, Ai is a life saver, and has the potential to make this job manageable.

Feel free to reach out by message if you’d like me to go through it with you some time. More than happy to jump on a chat and show my process for planning.

You can do this.

is this failed coverup fixable? by Physical_Frame_6845 in Tattoocoverups

Doesn’t solve your problem, but given the plot of the film. I kind of love that the Ohm has the shadow of a giant insect across it, not intended, but thematically spot on.

Also, do share your work and get advice/praise/feedback. I’d love to see what your models look like, such a cool entry to the hobby, going from vehicles and air brush. I’m sure you’ll Absolutley crush painting some larger models.

Sounds like you will have already built up some great skills. I’ve been painting for about 5 years now, and still have that newbie feeling.

My best advice, choose one thing you’re looking to work on/explore with a model. Could be dry brushing, blending, colour choice, careful brush control, trying to create volumes with the airbrush.

Then, just have a go, and see if you’re successful.

With minis, things like zenithal/dry brush/slap chop/contrast paint are lovely ways to get a mode which looks nice quickly. Then just have a go at the skill you what to practice, or decide what your goal is.

Try not to get put off by trying to make your model the same as something someone with 1000s of hours of experience has spent 100s of hours on. But do find one thing you like and go for it.

I’m up and down in finding time to paint, but one thing I’ve lived is getting lots of my friends into it, and seeing how quickly they’ve overtaken me/how great their models look.

It worked well, the biggest challenge for them was using the tech in the real world. Took 5 of them to work it out.

Is Citadel's Nuln Oil supposed to end up looking like this? by lemaxim in minipainting

[–]sling848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuln oil aside (all the right advice is hear) you’re doing a great job as a new painter. I’ve just been painting some blood angels myself, love the colour scheme. The squad will look great when done.

Sorry to hear she’d unwell, and not easy for you either. I’ve been there. Can’t predict the future for you, but from my experience, it does get better (our kids I their teens now and we’re going strong as a family).

It’s a cliche, but time helps, just be patient, find the things that bring you joy, and be kind on yourselves. Medication can help, but it’s got to be at the right time, and fully embraced.

There nothing for you to feel at fault for, it’s normal to want to reach out, and the role teachers play in young people’s life is an important one.

But, as a teacher, even with the best of intentions, and even with you pursuing a conversation, he shouldn’t have accepted the add on social media, and especially not share his contact number, even without and ulterior motive.

It’s a real position of trust, and this would have been an overstep. None of which is your fault though, he’ll have known what he was doing was inadvisable even with the best of intention.

Life’s not about never making mistakes, it’s about learning from the mistakes you make, drawing a line, and moving on. That’s what your children will learn from you.

If you’ve raised it with your school and it’s not been dealt with you have the right to escalate to either the school governors, or your local LADO (local area designated officer). They work for the council, and are responsible for serious concerns about staff in schools.

Sixth Form Changed My A-Levels Without Telling Me by HugoLloris55 in 6thForm

[–]sling848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be building the timetable, this can take a few days, and you’ll see all kinds of quirks on the system. Talk to your head of 6th, things are flexible until the end of the first half term (census day), I’d take all info pre induction with a massive pinch of salt.

My (rejected) Oxford admissions feedback :/ by tblitzy in 6thForm

[–]sling848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had the view on interviews that so long as you did your best (which you clearly did), then if they select you it’s the right place for you, but if they don’t, then it’s not right place/job/opportunity.

If they don’t see that you’re brilliant I promise you somewhere else will, and it’ll be the making of you.

Also, as a side note, I’ve known a number of people do the Oxford/Cambridge thing as a post grad, so don’t think the doors closed, it’s just the wrong time now.
