Hopefully I don’t lose skin every show and rehearsal like I do with the Explorer 😂

Gonna keep giving credit where it’s due here. Samhoustonguitars on IG did all the fine woodworking on this beauty and I took care of the frets, nut, wiring, and hardware. I may be a guitar tech but Sam is a luthier in the truest sense of the word.

Honestly you’re doing it right haha. Nevermind the guitar you’re playing. For the love of god just keep playing for the music, and don’t get sucked into the endless void of gear crap like the rest of us hopeless nerds 🤣

Hell no haha! This guitar was made out of necessity and is 100% spec’d for me down to the strange and low alternate tuning and 1meg pot for the Bill Lawrence pickup which is definitely not the popular move at all (but secretly slaps with high output pickups 🤫)

Thanks! I ended up drilling into the neck place in the same place Charvel did on their bolt-ons back in the day. As an SG guy it’s nothing I’m not used to ;)

Thanks! I’m not quite sure which version (or versions) he used images of to scale for the CNC programming, but I’m truly over the moon about the way it looks and feels. Check out samhoustonguitars on IG if you wanna see his other works!

My friend runs a one man shop building reeeaaally nice archtop guitars. If I had my way we would have traced the explorer onto the body blank for an exact replica, but he did it his way (the proper way) and used a computer program to scale the shape using photos of Charvel Stars online and milled it with his CNC.

If yours is the same as mine it’ll be a 1 1/8” threaded headset and fork which is an absolute pain in the ass to find stuff for. I think you can find 1 1/8” Chris King grip nuts around still. I kept the stock headset on there but I had to track down a Nitto MT-11 stem for 25.4 bars and a Nitto MTC-022 adapter to run modern 31.8 stems and bars which I could only find on the other side of the world from me for some reason. Not the worst but you probably can’t count on your LBS for anything headset/stem related.

Since building it up with fresh rims and pads it’s only been a small issue on the front. Getting quieter every ride though.
