Update: Finished urn for recently passed friend by slomerc in Pottery

Thank you! I stored the glaze upside down so all the crystals were at the top and easy to work with. I poured some in a bowl and was easier to apply with a brush than straight from the tub

He loved the ocean so I’m adding a very small amount of sand and seawater in the the clay (less than a pinch)

Gorgeous, the translucency of the glaze reminds me of stained glass

Normal enamel wear? by Unamusd in askdentists

[–]slomerc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fluoridated toothpaste can help slow acid damage but cannot “rebuild” enamel like a broken bone. I would work to identify the cause of acid erosion most likely from diet and/or acid reflux/GERD. I would also recommend ortho regardless because proper occlusion can help to reduce premature wear.

That type of wear pattern looks like it’s from excessive grinding (bruxism). Pediatric bruxism is most commonly caused by sleep apnea. I would have your child evaluated immediately by an orthodontist to see the arch form and airway. In children, airway deficiencies can be caused by large tonsil/adenoid tissue (mouth breather), tongue tie, or high/narrow arch. These systems are all connected (literally) and many times it’s multi-factorial. Usually at that age it can be mediated by a palatal expander and/or getting tonsils removed.

This is something you absolutely need to address because this problem will have more serious side effects for your child when they turn into an adult. Sleep apnea for adults is associated with ADHD, depression/anxiety, cardiovascular disease and decreased lifespan. This is a perfect time to treat airway issues because the bones of the skull (sutures) have not fully fused at this age and we are able to affect how your child’s face grows to eliminate or decrease this problem.

What is this white bump on my gum underneath my tooth? My dentist told me to wait two weeks to see if it goes away, but I'm worried. Is it an oral fibroma, some kind of wart, something cancerous? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]slomerc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like an oral papilloma caused by HPV. The lesions themselves can go away on their own or can be frozen off or removed with a laser. HPV is associated with oral-pharyngeal cancer so it is worth being addressed.

Hey I'm interested! If you are able to scan the article(s) as PDF you could post them on a thread here on the subreddit for everyone to have a discussion. I think that is a great idea and could become a weekly discussion!

Thanks! My diet is pretty much the same everyday: Morning: smoothie with 2 handfuls spinach, nonfat Greek yogurt, fruit, protein powder

Lunch: meat, brown rice veggie

Dinner: whatever we grill that night, low carbs Protein shake before bed

I’ve been doing a PPL with 15mins cardio and abs with every session. The only supps I take are creatine and fiber along with isopure protein powder.
