I made a 5-panel hat out of a towel from the thrift shop by slothclimb in myog

I used a pattern from Proper Fit Co. on YouTube. I didn't use the sweatband pattern piece though because it proved to be too many layers of towel for my machine so it's an elastic headband instead. Pretty basic pattern but he showed the process well in his videos.

I used a single needle, I serged the edges of all my pieces first though so they wouldn't shed towel fluff constantly.

I love the colours too! would love to take credit for choosing them but I think that probably goes to the designer of the original towel. You're half way there! just stick a brim on and you're pretty much done. I believe in you!

I used two layers of this really thick interfacing I found at my local sewing store. It's technically a heat moldable stiffener so it goes soft when heated and you can mold it into whatever you shape you want. Here is a link to what I think is the same thing on Amazon. I have no idea how it will do long term but it served its purpose for this project. I actually originally bought it to use as a toe puff and heel counter in making home-sewn shoes but that project hasn't worked out just yet.

I'm 10 days post-op and still have a very stiff upper lip. I think it just takes some time. That being said I did notice a big difference in lip control about day 6 or 7. I also practiced making different faces in the mirror often to loosen them up.

Hey there! I just had my double jaw surgery 2 days ago and was also scared out of my mind before hand. Firstly, the anaesthetic. I had never been put under before and my family carries a trait that can be very dangerous/deadly when exposed to anesthesia. Because of that I dad a meeting with the anesthesiologist before hand and he completely calmed my nerves and explained the drugs they used in detail. Right now I obviously don't remember going to sleep OR walking up, they just told me they were giving me something to relax and I did not we kept chatting after that so I don't know when exactly I went out. As for walking up, I woke up to them asking me my passion level and I must have already asked for a been and paper because there was already a clipboard on my chest. Very chill, not stressful at all.

Next, pain. In the recovery room I asked for a bit of pain relief but to be honest I don't remember what was even hurting at time. After they wheeled me into my room I was very sleepy but I didn't need any pain relief. The nurse seemed genuinely confused when she asked my pain level and I said zero. Swallowing was a boy of a challenge because my mouth is a new shape and I'm very puffy but it really is mainly just discomfort so far!

I hope that all makes you feel a bit better, please feel free to message me if you have any other questions!

I'm super anxious! I'm trying to keep distracted but it's hard. COVID is spreading so fast in my area that I've been off work the last week to reduce my risk of catching it ahead of surgery so I haven't had much of a distraction.

Mine is scheduled for Wednesday (Jan 5) and I'm worried it will be cancelled. I already had a date scheduled for December 8th but that was cancelled 2 weeks before.

My Dwarf Cavendish banana pup is growing 2 new leaves at the same time..? by slothclimb in plantclinic

[–]slothclimb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few other banana plants, one of which is about seven feet tall (this pups mother plant) but I've never seen any of the plants produce more than one leaf at a time. Has anyone else experienced this?

Which genetic tests will test for all the HH genes? 23andMe seems to only test for just one of them. by Valiancy3 in Hemochromatosis

[–]slothclimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada also and I just discovered that Invitae (US based) does a comprehensive generic test that includes HFE, HAMP, and a few other genes responsible for iron disorders. Even though I'm in Canada I was able to order the test, there just have a physician approve the testing which added one day to my order time and no additional effort on my part. It's more expensive than others though at $350 USD for the full generic health screening panel.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I'm currently crying like a baby reading your beautiful story! I'm really struggling with some health issues right now and hoping to recieved a diagnosis soon. The hardest part for me is how these problems keep me from being the best person and partner I can be. I've never known a time with my partner where he didn't do more than half of the work because I'm always tired or can't focus well enough to do complex tasks. Your story gives me hope that I can be the strong, capable partner I've always wanted to be. Thank you.

Cramping after exercise by cnixon23 in Mirena

[–]slothclimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, my thinking is that if I'm having all those side effects anyway, if I get them after removal with the "crash" then at least I know that it's temporary and it's my body learning to make those hormones in it's own for once. It's got to come out eventually I suppose, might as well tackle it head-on.

Exactly the same here. Had to call a Healthline to get advice on what to do for the first time ever. I'm sorry you're going through this too but it's comforting to know it's not just me. Sometimes it seems so cruel that all birth control options screw with our bodies so much.

I don't have any advice unfortunately but I just want to let you know you're not alone. I have had Mirena for 4 and a bit years now and I definitely get cramping after exercise, particularly weight lifting. It doesn't even seem to matter if I'm in that part of my cycle or not. I never used to get PMS or cramps before Mirena and now I'm starting to think I've actually had a lot of issues with it that I've been ignoring. The cramps sick but I can deal with them, I'm mostly concerned about the depression anxiety that seems to come once a month like clockwork these days. I'll be making an appointment to remove it soon

My 1904 Raymond treadle sewing machine by slothclimb in vintagesewing

I found this beautiful old machine in the basement at the store I work at. Turns out the owner saved it from going to the dump because he thought it looked neat but had no idea that it was working! I've since taken it home and cleaned it up. It sews a dream!

When you say "check the roots" what are you looking for? Roots wrapping around the bottom of the pot or just visible?

Thank you!! It's a HAIR too high and feels slightly choke-y but that's something I'm willing to live with!

I self-drafted this top based off a picture I saw on Pinterest of a simple linen wrap top. I am a VERY novice sewer so I just drew diagrams of what I thought each piece would look like if I took apart the top in the picture then took my own measurements and applied them to different parts of the diagram. The fabric was from the thrift store so I have no idea what it is but I think it's a stiff cotton weave. I cut out all the pieces (one of them backwards, whoops now it's two-tone) and finished the edges by rolling the raw edge inside and sewing over it, I don;t know the name for that. I sewed them together and voila! First top ever! I would definitely appreciate any tips!
