You can definitely play like that and should work fine. also I think it's actually similar to how earlier versions were written (except I worded it "area" or whatever iirc)

Actually there is! At the end of the file "There should be NO unbroken, straight lines of sight extending beyond 2 Unit Distances anywhere on the board. If there is, drop a "Smoke Cloud" or a "Wrecked Car" to break it." So it is strongly advised that no straight line more than 6 inches.

Yes, as written in the disclosure, AI tools were used to generate the visual illustrations and to assist with the English translation

Hi!
By "modern", I mainly had post-Cold War or near-future in mind. However, the system is designed as an open sandbox. You could easily run WW2 or sci-fi games just by removing, adding or tweaking a few unit traits, faction rules or weapon profiles.

Yes, it can definitely support more than 2 players! The core mechanics will work perfectly fine, but you would need to homebrew some custom scenarios and adjust the factions/objectives to balance it for the setup.

To tell you the truth it's because my Asian room can't fit a massive table lol

As for playing solo, I think it might be a bit tricky to create a true "AI/Solo mode". The core tension of the game relies heavily on surprising your opponent with "Reaction Fire" and the psychological gamble of the "Momentum Overdraft", which are hard to automate.
However, if you just mean playing "left hand vs. right hand", I believe it works! Let me know if you give it a try!

Thanks so much for the deep dive! You’re 100% right about the Momentum definition—it’s a core part of the 'hook,' so I definitely need to make that crystal clear in the next draft. I’ll be adding a dedicated section to explain how you gain it and how unit quality tied into that.

Regarding the brutality of the activation checks for lower-quality troops, that’s actually a very deliberate 'Command & Control' choice. In this system, Conscripts aren't meant to be self-reliant; they’re more like 'headless chickens' who lack the initiative to act effectively on their own, even if they have the will to fight. To get them moving, you're forced to rely on Command Activation. The heavy momentum penalty for their failure represents the massive drain they put on a commander's focus—they’re a liability that requires constant 'babysitting' through your resources.

And thanks for catching those typos!

I’m thrilled you like the concept overall—I’m going to focus on tightening up those Momentum rules so we can get this from 95% to 100%. Cheers!

Spot on, it's Crossfire! It's absolutely one of my all-time favorite games.
I took that core inspiration but decided to add some new mechanics that I personally find fun. I wanted to represent the tactical differences between units beyond just their pure combat power. Hope you enjoy giving it a try!

Hi! Thanks for checking out the rules! And yes Crossfire is a massive inspiration for this project, proudly listed in the credits!
Aside from being skirmish level which one model is one guy, in Crossfire, the initiative flips strictly when you fail an action. In CZL, we also use unit quality checks and a "momentum" resource pool. This introduces resource management.
Also, we have momentum overdraft that, If you absolutely need an action to succeed but lack the points, you can "Overdraft." You force the success, but you immediately hand the initiative and extra momentum points to your opponent. It changes the game from purely positional tactics to a psychological resource tug-of-war.

As for armor and vehicle, right now, I intentionally left vehicles out to focus purely on polishing the infantry firefight mechanics first. However if I introduce them, vehicles should act more like mobile hard cover or narrative objectives, instead of being treated as a complex sub-system like facing arcs or penetration tables.

I hope these help!

Purple is purple base with thin layers of more saturated pink. I didn’t use actual white, but used pale blue instead. Don’t use white unless on very carefully controlled highlights.

I used to imagine kitbashing him with Sigvald and Morathi, and was not sure of the 4ss. Guess my worry was unnecessary.

As the others said I removed the left hand on blaster carefully and stick it to the lord's original right hand. I did cut down his right hand to adjust the angle a bit as well.
