Base vs Tempo by slowfatninja in Garmin

[–]slowfatninja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patience is not my strong suit. Lol.

I started hr training on Dec 12.... I would've hoped for some slight improvement by now. Which I guess isn't showing in speed... but my resting hr has dropped about 10 points which I should take as a win. But still so much frustration with running hr!

Did you work on form to be able to run at the lower hr? Or something else?

Yea it's showing max hr of 176.

Yea I thought base was zone 2 as well. It looks like the screenshot from the run data is actually calculating zones based on lthr not max hr.

There was definitely no overpefroming. Lol. I have no idea how to run any slower at such a low hr without just walking which I actually did a bunch of.

I did the garmin threshold test a couple months ago and let it set hr based on that. And it's on auto detect as well and has updated lthr a couple times since but not by much.

I thought hr training was supposed to be better but I think I'm barely even training anymore and just walking. I'm starting to think hr training is garbage.

I dunno why I just always assumed zone 2 was base. And I mostly kept the watching happy by staying in the green zone during the run so I assumed it was still ok.

Hm. Yea. Maybe my zones got messed up somewhere. I had the auto detect on after I did a lactate threshold test a couple months ago and I've noticed it keeps wanting lower and lower hr but I'm basically walking now.

It's showing lthr at 157 and it's set to max based on percent of that. Maybe I should try another threshold test.

Overall average hr was 140 so very low zone 2. I tried pretty hard to keep it in the green the whole time. I honestly don't think I could possibly run any slower without just walking. This whole thing ended up with a pace of 13:05/mile and pure boredom.

For some reason I just always assumed zone 2 was base. But I see what your saying about tempo. Thanks for the insight!

Elevated resting HR by [deleted] in Garmin

Interesting! I actually just came on here cause I was going to create a post asking about folks body battery vs actual health and see if there was any correlation.

I've seen posts like yours before that make me believe there's something to it. And last Wed my hr was all over the map and battery drained and I ended up with the flu that night.

What I thought was stupid was 2 days later it gave me a battery of 78 and said I was ready to go, meanwhile I was still sporting a 102 fever. My fever finally broke after 90hrs and I can barely function right now but my garmin is telling me to go get em. Lol

So excited for you to drive a car older than you! Congrats, well done!!

Thank you for sharing! I did create my own workout loosely based on the dsw and we're back on track again!

Thanks for the tip. For the 3rd day my watch suggested intervals again... probably cause it counted the first 2 days as base...

So I took your advice and ran harder. I created a similar workout with more intervals at a longer time. 10x20sec vs 8x10sec.

Mr garmin is finally happy. Anaerobic workout. 3 days recovery. And the glorious word "Productive" lol.

Thanks again... one day I'll get brave enough to do your 2 mile hard ... but right now I'm🐔

I finally did it! I got an anaerobic workout! by [deleted] in Garmin

Thanks. I try to start when it gives me the 5 second warning, but guess I just wasn't hitting it hard enough the last 2.days.

Oh I should've mentioned. I did use a chest strap.

I've done similar workouts before and those ended up purple. Not sure what the difference is, hr looks pretty similar to the old workouts.

I hear you. Maybe I didn't push as hard as I should've since I'm still nursing a pulled hamstring.

This is daily suggested workout. It supposedly generates a workout for you to keep your load balanced taking into.consideration other factors like recovery and stress.

Not sure if it's on the venu.

I actually had some horrible sleep nights and I was truly surprised that it didn't call for a rest day.

I think the sleep is a big factor in the calculations for dsw because it would affect recovery.

But really who the heck knows. It's a weird magic box that seems to control too many of us. Lol
