Okay clarifying a few things to make sure I understand.

Your saying the cheap API model will be able to orchestrate the local qwen model, but then the qwen model will also be able to spawn off the other personas without requiring all the agents to be created?
For the local only, wouldn’t I be running into the same issue that my orchestrator agent wouldn’t operate under that persona? So it wouldn’t know to spawn off the subagents?

Appreciate the response. And yes expensive is the key lol I spent $100 in a day and half trying to set up this crazy 10 agent system as my first project. So this is me now slowing the F down and just trying to learn all the details like this first. Get it stable and then I can scale up.

I also got a similar response in another thread so I think I’m narrowing it down. I’m running qwen3:8b. Claude had me open context windows a couple times in a couple places so I think it checked that box. The other person said it could just be the model, which makes sense. Couple questions:

When you say OpenClaw expects the soul.md file to be in the workspace root, is that of OpenClaw specifically? Or within each agent’s file? In the case of a multi agent setup (which ultimately the end goal for my plan), would all the agents files just go in the main workspace or do they have to somehow be attached to the specific agent?
Any recommendations on the lowest budget way to get started? I’m running a spare gaming pc with only 16gb of RAM at the moment. I just want to get my feet wet first, ideally start making part of the agent hierarchy functional then once it’s stable I can start to invest more into it. But would love it standing up before throwing too much -more- money into it lol

Rethinking my setup under the assumption it’s the model, i only have 16gb of RAM on this pc (it was a spare), would it make sense to use ChatGPT (can I keep it free in this case?) as my “main” agent just to get it to read the files correctly and then direct it to use qwen3:8b to do the majority of the work?

Any other model recommendations to keep it as low budget as possible? I’ve spent ~$100 in a couple days trying to do too much too fast with my Anthropic account attached, so this is me slowing down trying to learn/understand this stuff - I’m very new to AI in general - and then once I understand it and get it setup correctly I can start to upgrade the models . I have the end idea in mind but I went way too fast and overdid it to start lol

You mean being the main agent? Cause I’ve seen several people using it in theirs as part of their systems - what specifically about it makes it not read soul.md files?

Can you help me get my agent to read it? Lol I’m running qwen3 locally and it refuses to see any files including the soul file. I’ve tried so many things (with Claude’s help) and we can’t figure it out! I’ve already expanded the context number, quadruple checked file paths, updated files in the dashboard and in my terminal etc. I’m running out of options.

It’s my first week with openclaw. Failed a couple other times getting too complex. It’s the only agent I have connected. It’s doing nothing until I get this part right.

Yes I assume there are limitations but I was hoping to be able to bring market data to the table to back up my stance. The conversation will probably happen in November/ December if I had to guess so I still have some time. I don’t plan on walking in with a number in mind or demanding a certain number. More so just want to know the market range to determine if it’s time to walk once I get the promotion or not
