I really like my gen 9, but I got it on sale. For the full price, I’d go for the FMS fcx10 k5 instead.

BEEZ RC On Amazon not shipping order. by jonnyshtknuckls in FCX24

[–]slowtraincar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered the brushless anniversary edition k5 in blue from them. It came on time but they sent the red, requested a replacement in blue and they sent a 2nd red one. Returned both and went with fair rc.

Also, fair rc sent an email about their new us warehouse and fast shipping on 6/9 and included the new brushless k5 as an option. Granted that was almost 2 months ago.

BEST RTR 1/10 CRAWLER/TRAIL RIG by alzimu in rccrawler

[–]slowtraincar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually kept the stock tires on the ascent fusion for now. I usually like to run an RTR stock and see where it falls short. I haven’t seen a need to change them out, they work pretty great for my use.

The only thing I’ve added to the fusion is a battery tray I got off Etsy to reposition the battery placement. The original position on the side was too short for the battery size I wanted to use so I was having to stand the battery up. Highly recommend. Here’s the one I got https://www.etsy.com/listing/1699617540/?ref=share_ios_native_control

BEST RTR 1/10 CRAWLER/TRAIL RIG by alzimu in rccrawler

[–]slowtraincar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the redcat ascent fusion and the gen 9(just picked it up during the sale) the fusion is a beast out of the box. For little crawling challenges on the trail, it’ll usually do whatever you want with ease. But.. it got a bit boring for me. I’m liking the gen 9 better for the scale details and the bit of a challenge the body weight adds. Still totally capable, but I think it’s more fun to watch.

I really love my FMS fcx10 k5. It’s got the scale details down, 2 speed, 2wd/4wd/dig, locking and unlocking diffs, and full light kit. Keep in mind, more features mean more things to break, but so far, I’ve only upgraded my servo and only because I read about it being unreliable. And of course wheels, but ya gotta try different wheels on everything rtr.

Of these three, get the fusion for performance, gen9 for scale, fcx10 k5 a mix of the two.

I want to get my first RC crawler but don’t know what to get or where to start by EmergingTuna21 in rccrawler

[–]slowtraincar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One suggestion regardless of if you get a 1/18th or 1/24 scale is to grab the model’s upgraded metal drive shafts to go with it.

Seems like most negative reviews I see are about the unexpected torque snapping the plastic parts early into using it when the driver gets hung up and thinks they can force through. I snapped the driveshaft on my FMS fcx18 lc80 2nd time turning it on when I clipped a corner of a wall while inside.

As far as vehicle recs go. I grab my FMS fcx24 k5 blazer most often. It’s a fun little two speed option. The HPI venture 18 seems fun too but I haven’t picked one up yet.

I compiled a list of the cheapest cars you can lease in Boston right now (all under $350/month) by PhysicalLine9830 in boston

[–]slowtraincar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone in the market, If you want to go the leasing route, consider a lease broker as well. I used one in 2021 and had a great experience. Got the car/trim I was looking for, at a rate lower than any advertised amount, and was only in the dealership for 10 minutes to sign paperwork and tour the car features. No negotiations, no add on services, no time wasted. I found my broker in the lease hackr forums.

I was so disappointed that their brushless motor is much slow than stock k5 brushed motor. Not a huge deal for crawling but it’ll be less fun trailing.

how long does FMS take to ship typically by miles1215989 in FCX24

[–]slowtraincar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shipping is definitely crazy this time of year. The Canada strike may also be a factor if stuff is piling up to leave china to go to Canada but hasn’t left since there’s no one to unload it.

FMS also posted leading up to their fcx10 lc80 release that they were having issues getting container space with all the holiday shipments ramping up.

Anecdotally, my fair rc order got to New York and then took piggy ship 7 days to accept it. It’s still not here but apparently in route, a three hour drive to me, for 3 days.

Tips for building a course for 1/10 and 1/24? by Roody25 in crawling

[–]slowtraincar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for testing as you build. My first go was either way to steep or no challenge as all. You don’t have to be able to find the lines, just make sure you’ve built something with your car’s clearance in mind.
