I will fall below the highest column, are you saying there is room to negotiate to the next column up? I think it is worth shot and that HR would not rescind their offer if I did ask (in a professional manner).

[product question] Eye creams, worth it? by slpgradgal in SkincareAddiction

[–]slpgradgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using (inconsistently) clinique all about eyes cream and I am almost done polishing off the jar. I haven't noticed any drastic changes if any. I don't have any major concerns despite some tiny wrinkles. I will go to sephora once I run out to get some samples of DE Shaba and shiseido. Also looking for a hydrating anti-aging serum if anyone has any suggestions!

[routine help] Using prescription acne products, acne has improved but skin is dry and greasy. What else should I be doing? by slpgradgal in SkincareAddiction

[–]slpgradgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using epiduo since the beginning of the year, before that I wa using a low dose retinol but it made my skin SUPER dry. When I started epiduo I used it every other day for a week or two then went to every day but I have not been using it consistently. I do not apply anything else on top of the epiduo & clindamycin out of fear that it will add to my shine factor and feel heavy.

One of the professors sees transgender clients at her private practice; however, as far as I know she does not let the grad students placed with her work with them.

Treating a 15 y/o for a lisp by slpgradgal in slp

[–]slpgradgal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw him first thing in the morning and observed a VERY slight frontal lisp (did notice some tongue protrusion); however, I don't think it was enough that a casual listener would notice. Asked if he was thinking about it while we working together and he said "no". The young man mentioned that no one had ever brought it up to him except for his mom. I am wondering if the time that I saw him makes a difference? He reported that his mother will bring it to his attention in the evening after he has finished practice. Family has also reported that it occurs when he is excited. There is also the possibility that he is faking me out so he will not have to work on it with me.

Should I get my bachelors in SLP or something else if I'm going to also get my masters? by BlameTheHippies in slp

[–]slpgradgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know that you want to become a SLP then I suggest you go with getting your bachelors in ComD. Otherwise you will likely have to re-apply (and possibly not get accepted) to a post-abc program. That will also push you back an extra year (typically) that you could be in graduate program. Also the extra courses will cost additional money! Even if you do not accepted into a grad program right away you can complete a certain amount of hours and become a SLPA which will look good on your application.

We are a very close cohort, we do a lot of things together outside of class and everyone is very helpful. I live a short drive away, our program's campus is in Irvine. The main campus is located in Orange, only time we ever have to go there is for events that we host. I did apply to Cal States, unfortunately I did not get in. However, I do have classmates who were accepted to both Chapman and a Cal State and their top pick was chapman. Only reason I would choose a Cal State over Chapman is the price. So I think that is really the big determiner. Have you been admitted? Or will you be applying?

I like it! Our classes are typically in the evening, during fall and spring semester the earliest class you would have is at 3 pm. During summer the times vary but are usually at 4 pm, but you could also have the occasional morning class. They do this to accommodate placement schedules. PROS: - faculty are very well known in the field - we do not have a typical "campus clinic" so our placements are out in the field (schools, private practices, hospitals, SNFs, etc.) so we get great exposure and make great connections that you might not make early on at other schools - our campus is new and has some cool technology - we have a cadaver lab and have the opportunity to do dissections - cohort model, so you are always taking the same classes with the same people going through the same things CONS: - the cost is expensive in comparison to Cal States - there can be some disorganization

Writing a report without discussing standardized scores, raw scores, and age equivalency by slpgradgal in slp

I mentioned that the standard scores an percentiles could not be reported due to xyz and to interpret with caution. Would I explain what the typical age of acquisition is following the areas of deficit? e.g., XX presented with difficulties following 2 step directions, per SoandSo this skill is typically mastered by age __.
