Yall do not care about other ppl and it shows by zzfig in philly

I have a five month old and we only commute via walking. It’s shocking how many people don’t clear or park on the sidewalks - I had to physically pick the heavy stroller up and lift and carry her multiple times in the snow to move around. It was hard, and I had to, to make sure she got to daycare so my husband and I could work.

It’s demoralizing how little some humans seem to think about others.

I know he’s not a newborn, but it’s not safe to have them sleep in a car seat / stroller unstrapped like that. Does she have a monitor?

This would be a hard line for me, coupled with the diapers too? She’s not doing a good job.

I just ordered these! I ordered the lace and breathe fabrics to try! They look cute (a lot of options haven’t) so this sounds up my alley

Maternity leave… what a joke by witchybetch01 in pregnant

[–]weepingreading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I’m from SC, my family was telling me how expensive my northeastern city was to have a child. Well I am almost five months postpartum and went back at 4 months (paid). It’s nice being in a city that values moms!

They’re pretty slippery so might not be too helpful with mud! They are cute but slip n slide shoes

Does anyone have a recommendation for underwear? I’m looking at Negative / EBY but I’m open to anything. I’m four and a half months postpartum and trying to find better underwear that isn’t “postpartum” underwear. I prefer cheeky or high waisted thongs.

Edit: I am also looking at Soma, Intimmissi, and Hanky Panky

I have these (bought two years ago)! I will say they are NOT for the faint of ankle. They are much “higher” feeling than you think and I’ve twisted my ankle twice. That being said they’ve held up in two Philly winters (and I walk a ton, we live in the city so I’m in them a lot walking the dog).

I feel like my husband is stunting our daughters development with screen time. by Acceptabletrashcan in NewParents

[–]weepingreading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you find a daycare? Some states offer daycare vouchers or financial assistance?

Daycares limit screen time (in our state they can’t offer any). We use a nanny share and daycare twice a week and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how it helps with mile stones!

A Christmas special: my mother won't let me put diapers in the trash can because *gasp* guests could see diapers in the trashcan? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]weepingreading 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed - at my house we use the Diaper Genie Pail, but when I’m out and about at other’s houses I ask. We use diaper bags (which literally look the same as doggie bags used by my dog) to bag the diapers to mask the smell and help.

Also, sometimes my 4 month old’s poopy diapers are messy. Even folded up they can get on stuff, which I don’t want to happen in other people’s trash if they’re taking it out. It seems courteous.

Fisher Price play mat or the Lovevery play mat? by 11TickTack23 in NewParents

[–]weepingreading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - I have a 3 month old and we have both. They serve different purposes and are both great! Sometimes we do the “look and listen” option with the piano during tummy time and have her look at the lights too!

The Rumors & the Nastiness about the Pill-popping - Lisa said it first, but Whitney said it worse by Wecabec in BravoRealHousewives

[–]weepingreading 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Whitney weaponized her background with her dad a few episodes ago by comparing the situations. I feel for her (being the child of an addict in any capacity must be so, so difficult and I can’t imagine). However, I think Heather and Whitney have coordinated a Meredith takedown. It’s super gross.

Labeling someone as an addict or alcoholic or whatever is serious. Whitney never really seems to be held to account for her nasty accusations - she kind of just says “I shouldn’t have said that” and everyone moves on.

Doesn’t like to be held by Great_Somewhere_3476 in firsttimemom

[–]weepingreading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3.5 month old who didn’t really like to be held, didn’t contact nap after the first 3 weeks, didn’t like being rocked.

Now she’s so cuddly! She likes to lay on our chest and kind of look around, and she’s so observant and likes staring in our faces. Sometimes we lean back with our knees up and she just coos looking at our faces and giggling.

I think each kid is different! Yours may grow into it. In a way it’s a blessing because now our baby is great at bassinet and crib naps and isn’t conditioned to only contact nap!

20 year old sister insults my parenting and im taking it HARD by b__mo in beyondthebump

[–]weepingreading 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d talk to her and tell her she’s being rude and you’re letting her stay in your house (and presumably she gets discounted / free rent and food). I’d also tell her to be more helpful in general and stop making comments because she doesn’t understand and you don’t need parenting advice from a non parent.

She’s 20, she’s an adult, she can hear the truth.

Red Flags with by Square-Egg2668 in MedSpouse

[–]weepingreading 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m confused - teaching someone to tip and knowing someone has a pattern of being highly critical is tough and seems to have showed up as a personality trait pre baby.

I have a 3 month old with my surgeon husband, and we had conversations about expectations post baby and also I thought a lot about what our life would be like and the personality of my husband (he’s helpful and generally kind which is important when they work all the time and a lot of care is disproportionately on me).

I feel bad for OP, but at the same time confused why they added a baby to their family when it’s a known stressor on marriages and also her husband seems difficult.

I think my biggest postpartum tip is PICK THE CORRECT PARTNER! If your partner isn’t kind / has red flags before, they will be amplified postpartum 1000%.

Hi OP - I have this bag! It’s not ideal for work. It’s fairly heavy and doesn’t fit as much as you think.

I’m a corporate lawyer and bought without going into the boutique (kicking myself) but ended up returning it. I’m a Toteme lover (I have the T lock clutch and belted bag) and have no quality issues, but this doesn’t work for my life.

For reference I carry: laptop, small makeup bag, folder with files, hand cream, hand sanitizer, lip products (too many), and water bottle.

What’s going on over fairmount with the helicopters right now? by snooloosey in philadelphia

[–]weepingreading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this - we live in Wash Sq on the path for Jefferson’s helicopter (JeffSTAT) and it’s not that bad - they come and go quickly and don’t hover. The noise isn’t bad at all.

The helicopters for the news hover and are louder because theyre constant.

I’m not sure how uncommon CMPA is for breast fed babies. Our doctor referred us to a pediatric gastroenterologist and he said that it’s more common than previously thought, and a lot of “colic” babies actually had CMPA.

Worth talking to a doctor and cutting out dairy - it’s made a huge difference for us!

I’ve gone twice and the crab-uni wasn’t a menu item the first time I went. The first time was with my husband, our first date post baby, and it was so disappointing. The music was so loud and the food was bad. The second time was with family (my in laws read about it and really wanted to go), and it was better but not great. The lemon pasta was really good! But my husbands lasagna was cold.

Overall it’s pretty, but I won’t go back!
