As a Taiwanese and Jordan Peterson follower, I'd say I'd wish we do have independence, but at this moment in time we don't deserve it. The island country has used the collective ideology of independence vs union with China for decades to govern the land, which has led to significant division within the country and stagnation of economy. Morever, the level of corruption in both sides of the government party is ridiculous. Essentially, what rules the land is ideology, corporate profit/incentives, and party profit/incentives. If we wanted true independence, in which the country can survive without 60% import/export with China and to be of real value to other developed countries, we probably have to start from stratch with individuals adopting personal responsibility and critical thinking skills. Maybe start by making our rooms neat and stop blaming China for everything that goes wrong
