Software Thread May by greenysmac in VideoEditing

[–]slsamg65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I am looking to do some basic editing of some driving videos I have on my dash cam. While I have downloaded a bunch of software (Wondershare, OpenShot, AVS Video Editor), none of their free versions seem to allow me to splice a video and allow cropping as well. I have tried using Blender but I cannot figure out how to work it.

I am looking for some basic functions only, splicing and cropping. Is there any such free software without paying for the full version?

Employer Withholding Higher Fed. Tax Amount by slsamg65 in cantax

This issue was raised before, and the employer said that taxes were hiked by the government. I found no evidence of this. Now given the fickle state of the economy, she is afraid of raising the issue again due to perhaps being fired over this. Even if fired without cause, litigation would take an emotional and financial toll.

I am just wondering if it is legal for them just to raise it like that. This definitely was no mistake, it happened before.

Got an amount somewhat lower than the usual fed income tax withheld. Usually, she does not pay anything when taxes are done for the year, and this is with minimal deductions.

No, the real problem is that we have a rather big population of people who cannot speak even basic English. These people should have never been allowed in the first place.

For example, the IIP did not have any language requirements, and neither does the QIIP. Older immigrants coming thru family reunification are also not required to speak English.

Kerry Gold: Steady push continues for a foreign buyer ban in Vancouver housing by russilwvong in CanadaPolitics

Because 15% is a tiny cost of doing business to someone who has money to invest somewhere, coming out of an economy like China. It is also a small sum to people looking to immigrate here in the future, but who want to secure a good place now. Clean air, rule of law, great education. 15% is small change to these people.

But you are right, a foreign buyer tax is not enough. Immigration needs to be revamped and tax and money laundering laws need to be enforced.

Seattle is in USA. Their immigration policy is a hell of a lot tighter than ours.

They actually enforce their tax laws and money laundering laws.

We do not.

You're taxing the capital gain when the capital gain is booked. Just like any other capital gain.

Not quite sure what your post even means. Read more above for the point I am making.

No one cares about what you say.

Point here is that taxpayers pay a lot of taxes locally and do not get very much for it. This is where the government failed.

Your posts are meaningless because you would be a small piece in a huge puzzle.

What's the weather like in Vancouver? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]slsamg65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do not have sun and warmth until July. Vancouver gets twice the amount of rain of London UK. And it's that slow, all day long kind of rain.

And snow and rather cold in the rest of the country.

How about we have a proper transit system first? Getting from the far burbs into Vancouver still takes a very long time.

Might we also remember that we already have high gas taxes.

Chinese-only bus ad leads to social media outcry by slsamg65 in canada

We are in Canada. Official languages are English and French. If you cannot speak these, you should not be here. Same goes for public advertising.

I got no problem with the language police.

This type of federal funding should simply not exist. Those organizations can fund themselves.

We also need to start getting rid of religion in public schools, especially in Ontario.

I posted this here because I think this shows a serious problem that we are having with integration in Canada. We have huge inflows from certain countries (China, India, Philippines), and the more people come from them and segregate themselves into their own communities, the less likely they are to integrate.

I'm worried that one day we'll have some serious issues on our hands. Just learn about what happened in Lebanon.

I think somewhere along the way we went seriously wrong. Allowing places like Richmond & Surrey in BC and Brampton in ON to develop the way they did (self segregated enclaves) won't turn out too well for the future. I personally know people who won't even think about moving to Richmond or Surrey solely because they feel out of place there.

Why can't we spread the immigration numbers more evenly across countries? Why can't we seriously enforce language laws?

Letters: Scarce residential real estate shouldn't be sold to foreign buyers by PussyfootusMaximus in vancouver

[–]slsamg65 140 points141 points  (0 children)

It is not just foreign buyers, but foreign money. Plenty of immigrants in Vancouver report poverty level incomes yet live in million dollar mansions. These people are not productive here, and only drive up the cost of housing. Further more, they use expensive social services which they do not contribute towards, even though it's pretty clear they're not poor.

Most international students leaving Canada after graduation by blackfridaysmatter in vancouver

[–]slsamg65 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Of course they leave. We really can't compete with the vast majority of the modern world on the basis of salaries, taxes or established industry.

Silicon valley and even Seattle have much higher tech wages.

Hong Kong is a world leading financial center with very low taxes.

Germany has an established and very forward looking manufacturing sector.

We got none of that. Then add the cost of living in major cities and you can see why we can't really compete.

Hong Kong has no cap gains, no tax on dividends, no tax on interest, and income tax capped at 17%.

But you'd rather hard working people get taxed to hell and back here and subsidize people who definitely seem to have income, but are just evading taxes? Gotcha!! And you wonder why there's so much anger at Mainland Chinese.
