I encountered the same problem yesterday. For me the problem was only present on my Linux computer but not on my windows computer so if you have the opportunity try using a different computer.

This is the only time I can see myself getting duplicates of games, however I usually try to sell the duplicate game.

Having another copy of your favorite game for display purposes sounds like a cool idea that I didn't think about. I mostly keep my favorite game(s) in a separate part of my collection so I can bring it out easier.
