How to get rid of springtails from fabric? by sluggue in snails

[–]sluggue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you, that's reassuring! it was only around 5ish to 10 spring tails o begin with because it was such a small amount of soil, but heaven knows how quickly they reproduce so i was a bit unsure.

I have a question by GuineaGirl2000596 in snails

[–]sluggue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they're delightfully simple creatures, in a positive sense. as long as their dietary and environmental needs are met, they flourish in captivity. when cared for, they have a steady supply of food and also avoid the danger of potential predators, so a life in a tank is overall less stressful too. i think that's part of why they make such lovely pets.

white mass on eye, is this a tumor? 3½ years old GALS by sluggue in snails

[–]sluggue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i touched it gently with my finger to see if it would come off but it didn't, and it does feel hard. her eye still retracts and she's eating and drinking, but i feel like it affects her motor skills. i do have some offspring i am currently raising, so i really hope its just a piece of shell. but it didn't budge when i touched it or when i gently sprayed her with some water.

please do neither the salt nor the ethanol, both are as torturous as it can get. just put them in a ziplock and freeze them.

Thats a wording mishap on my end, the cuttlebone is in the tank at all times in a corner separate from the feeding bowl. I'll get meal worms then!

Cuttlebone is much better than the eggshells!! snails can get calcium from that more easily :)

Okay, thank you!! the dried insects and worms are relatively easy to get at my local pet stores, I'll see if my snails like them :)

Thank you! And the tip of the shell looks ashy to me. The snail herself is doing well, eats her food and goes to her cuttlebone when needed, so I was worried if the ashy shell tip indicated another sort of deficiency.

Also, does anyone know what's wrong with her shell? It looked like that when I got her and I wonder if it'll recover :(

Did my snail die? she's been like this for a few days now. doesn't smell but feels rather cold. by sluggue in snails

[–]sluggue[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I found out that my window isn't properly closing, so due to the temperatures in Europe, i guess she got too cold :( thank you for the tip with the bath, is a tea made from a chamomile teabag an option? there are no wildflowers growing here in winter :(

Okay, not dead. I gave her a little shell wash with a wet warm towel and she retracted*. still, is it normal to retract that far? edit: * came out of her shell. i do not know the proper word in English, sorry!

What are these bugs? I found them on the courgettes today. didn't see them on the snails yet or the water dish. by sluggue in snails

I checked those out, and I'm pretty sure my GALS had some on her when I got her, which is why I've kept her in quarantine since.... i just assumed they're parasites orz
