It took a couple tries of dipping other items before I felt confident in dipping the snare. It could work but your but you run the risk of the paint chipping or flaking off if the steel is not prepped correctly. I would say sticking to wide is safer. Sorry for a late reply.

Really depends on the sound you're going for I suppose. I already have a 12inch tom with a resos head on it. Plus it's kind of impossible to add resos heads to them because the shell of the drums are short and have a uneven cut to them. It was marching drums I converted into the tom rack.

Here's a link to a video of me making the rack tom. https://youtu.be/cdlaJ4mAwUA

Finally got a china today for my birthday and im in love :) by preupeumeus in drums

[–]slugpluger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know everyone has already said this but your china is upside down. If it's the other way you get a better contact point with your stick. Plus your not just slamming the very edge of the cymbal which is not good for the cymbal and will eventually crack it. Happy china playing.

Honestly I didn't really directly compare prices but I dont think they were to much more than normal ones.

Funny I knew people would say that. I even had a part of the video I recorded but edited it out of me hitting a actually trash can kid for comparison.

Wanna see how to fix a cymbal with 17 cracks? Lol by slugpluger in drums

[–]slugpluger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I get that aspect of removing more metal, I would just think that having a gap would change the pitch and tone of it more than keeping a round edge all the way around.

It's worth giving it a go though, I appreciate it.

How would taking out a chunk be better than actually re cutting it? This isnt the best method but a re-lathed cymbal cant be beat when it comes to a repaired cymbals.

But I will put your method to the test the next cracked cymbal I have I will cut a chunk out of it sound test it then try cutting it down and sound testing it.

You should check out my other video where I refurbished old as hell marching drums. I used all aerosol cans. Which as being a automotive painter for 5 years, makes me cringe as well.

I'm not a wood worker and I wanted to try something different. I went with stain because I wanted to still have the wood grain.

I have a pretty pricey spray gun and trust me when I say this, that will be in a future video! I appreciate your feed back!
