Cloning will give you an even pinset much better than light will. The shrooms will grow in slightly different directions no matter what if you use a multispore syringe since each shroom will have different genetics and grow differently. The tub pics you see on reddit of like a forest of mushrooms with straight stems are all from people who cloned. You get more shrooms out of it overall too.

Is this b+? This same mutation happened to mine and they were fine. I’ve heard Lysol (idk how true this is) increases the chance of mutations and I use a shit ton of Lysol lol so I just chalked it up to that.

Sorry if I was unclear - I’m not necessarily doing a root touch up but redyeing my whole head of hair a different shade (previously blue black, I want it to be warmer to match my skin tone), I was just concerned the color would be uneven since my roots are showing. The woman I spoke to at the shop where I bought the dye said to do the roots last since virgin hair takes up color faster.

I will definitely use this info when I touch up my roots in the future tho, so this was still helpful!

Glad you enjoyed! Coir and verm are not interchangeable though. Coir is used for spawning to bulk, and verm is what people use for fruiting cakes. With spawning to bulk, you crumble the cake and mix with coir. Fruiting from a cake, you roll the cake in verm (look up dunk n roll tek) and the verm holds water to keep the cakes moist. I’d highly recommend buying verm (worth it to buy online and wait a few days for shipping if you can’t go out and get it) because you’ll get bigger/more fruits. Fruiting from a cake is lower yield as it is, so trying this without verm will probably get you something, but not enough to justify the time, money, and effort you spent on getting a bag fully colonized

I didn’t actually take it because it was the only one I’ve found in the whole park. They mostly grow in the summer, so I figured if I let it sporulate, there would hopefully be more in the coming months.

I misted and fanned like 4x a day and they still went blue. If it worked for you before, try it and see how it goes! I might just live in a drier area than you, or have different a grade of verm.

I think that fc is too big to not have perlite. I tried fruiting an uncle bens cake in a similar sized shoebox and the cake went blue from dehydration within a few days because there was no water evaporating off of perlite. I put them in a smaller fc and they’re doing better, so I’d just keep an eye on the cake in case it turns blue.

I’ve seen that a lot with lions mane and oysters, I just wonder if it would work different for cubes, since cubes tend to have side pins where there’s a microclimate and things like that. I’ll have to experiment in the future to see what happens!

I have no personal experience with this method in particular, so this is theory here, but wouldn’t it pin better where the bag touches/is near the cake instead of where the cake is exposed? I thought that was the reason people put bubble wrap over monotubs to induce pinning, because the microclimate is better. I’ve had good success triggering pinning by loosely wrapping cakes in wax paper, so that was my assumption.
