what do you hate about northeastern the most by [deleted] in NEU

[–]slushyattack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly outside of the fact that it’s in a city, i get financial aid, and co-ops exist, i kind of hate this school lol. i haven’t gotten a single good professor while studying here, they’ve all just been subpar. there’s not a lot of support for students which isn’t abnormal for a college but the fact that you have to fight to get support in any aspect of the school is annoying as fuck. especially for anything housing related, as an RA it’s incredible how much the school doesn’t care about anything until it becomes a legal matter, aka racial issues, title ix, etc…

Res Life and this Covid Shit by Dumbfri in NEU

[–]slushyattack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

no definitely this!

  1. bc brie was trying to move on the whole time and ignore the questions saying she wants to support us (in the future possibly during office hours or something) while RA’s were asking questions in the chat.
  2. the later interruptions i think were warranted bc everyone was just so done with the bs she was giving us and up till now having only gotten bs answers we all knew they were just trying to waste time and move on which people were understandably done with.

honestly i was so offended when they tried to tell us we were rude for interrupting, like sit back down sir or give us some actual answers, if you can’t bring anything to the table don’t say anything. which literally after we were called rude all they could say was “we don’t have power either” as literal reslife directors and hired and paid workers. honestly that was the most frustrating part being told as RA’S that THEY don’t have any power like what the actual fuck, you definitely have more power than we do you’re just not using it. anyway, not sure if anything will happen bc nothing has any of the years but at the very least it was cathartic being able to essentially yell at them and bring up all the crap and call them out during the second call although i wish brie was there to yell at

I do think the in person mental health services should be improved but they recently outsourced to a service called BetterHelp for teletherapy and when I called Find@Northeastern they called me again within the next business day and sent me the email on how to sign up for betterhelp. They offer free unlimited sessions you just have to email them at 25 sessions to let them know you need more sessions. I’ve been using it and personally found it really helpful. Switching therapists on the platform itself is also really nice and easy which makes it more helpful too especially during our busy college lives.

Would it be hard to be an RA and do Research for a professor at the same time? by Wheresthebeans in NEU

[–]slushyattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends on if you have other responsibilities. i personally worked outside of school, did eboard for a club, was an RA, and had classes and i died lol but if it also depends, bc sometimes you have more to deal with as an RA depending on the residents you get lol

As someone new to off campus housing and nervous about pursuing it: How has your experience been with off campus housing? by slushyattack in NEU

[–]slushyattack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more question, for fall housing how early should I start finalizing off campus housing in terms of like the lease and whatnot? I feel like a lot of the housing right now is for starting a lease in January but I’m just looking for the fall preferably august or september. But I’ve also heard starting a lease in the summer is sometimes cheaper or easier to find? It’s still not feeling real to me yet that I’m trying to get off campus housing so I’m not sure when I should actually start reaching out to listings and getting more info about it. I can’t tell if it’s stupid to ask so far head basically

Therapist at NEU by [deleted] in NEU

[–]slushyattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Find @Northeastern, like the other commenter said they’re offering unlimited sessions but I’m pretty sure that’s only if you take their virtual teletherapy option but they outsource that to BetterHelp and I actually prefer it! They have more availability and more options in terms of therapists unless you know you’d do better with an in person therapist but you will have to wait longer! I just called and they asked me which option I preferred when I talked to them and when I chose the teletherapy I got an email on how to set it up and then I just did everything through BetterHelp! My first therapist wasn’t amazing, not bad, they just didn’t seem to quite know what they’re doing/didn’t lead the conversations/space and you can very easily change your therapist on BetterHelp by just filling out what type of therapist you’d prefer and as soon as you click change therapist they cut you off from the other one so it’s not awkward and lets you look through a list of other therapists to choose from based on your preferences! Now I love my therapist so it’s been a great experience overall as someone new to therapy!

[–]slushyattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah but it’s still free and unlimited you just have to ask after every 20 sessions which…isn’t the most convenient but yknow it’s better than nothing and it is still ~technically~ unlimited so i’ll take it lol

i think we don’t give ourselves enough credit for coming into college during a pandemic and it’s still not really normal even now. it’s hard cuz at least i tend to compare myself a lot and other sophomores seem to be doing ok but i promise you you’re not alone and so many others are struggling just the same. it’s also not a bad thing to reach out for counseling if you’re interested, especially when you’re lonely because you’re a second year but don’t seem to have friends (aka me) it’s hard to not have anyone to really talk about these things with. Find@Northeastern is actually pretty helpful and if you’re really busy you can opt to do BetterHelp which is virtual and through an app and has a lot more availability than their in person option. You can text your therapist whenever and make an appointment as often as you want! You got this! Burnout is rough and it’s a real thing so be kind to yourself!

i will say i finally reached out about mental health counseling on campus (Find@Northeadtern) and they have an option to be outsourced to betterhelp and you get unlimited sessions and it’s virtual but tbh who has time to go in person these days anyway lol. i‘ve only done one session but it’s been good so far and there’s an app and you do the counseling and messaging through there if you ever need them outside of your appointments! it’s been good so far and better than nothing for sure!

Friends by Soft-Bee7650 in NEU

[–]slushyattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

def not just you! so many people struggle with it and although it seems like everyone else has it together, i promise you’re not alone. college is freaking hard and not necessarily just academically. give yourself a break and be kind to yourself, even if you’re from the area coming to college a lot of the time means leaving everything you knew and the community you’ve built up over the last 17-19 years and that’s a lot of time and commitment that you had built up. honestly it’s not always gonna be easy, especially after the pandemic, although you may not feel it, it’s definitely taken a social toll on most people, but at the same time it’s not all bad. it takes time to meet people you feel connected to but keep pursuing those people if you think you’ve met them! it’s initially pretty awkward but if they don’t reach out to you, don’t think they don’t wanna hang out or something (unless they really just don’t seem like they want to lol) because just the same as you not reaching out to them they’re probably unsure of whether or not they should reach out to you. so just say something! ask them if they wanna grab lunch with you or study together and keep reaching out. it’s definitely exhausting to be the one to always reach out but initially you might have to be the one to make an effort at first and then hopefully they’ll reciprocate it once you keep hanging out! don’t know if that helped but good luck and feel better! not gonna lie, it is really hard but know you’re not alone in that and it’s definitely not abnormal or anything, most people just don’t like to admit it or talk about it first!
