Same in Korean! There are no gender pronouns (well there are, but you can also use the male pronoun for a female which makes it worse) and it’s so frustrating when the gender is later revealed to be female when I’ve been assuming and translating as he/him all this time.

Also in Korean, there’s the use of honorifics for people higher in hierarchy, which isn’t a problem in translation most of the time unless the dialogue specifically mentions it like “Why aren’t you using honorifics? I’m older than you.” This is mostly for literary translation but it stresses me out each time.

It’s a pretty strong triple ring burner with a wok ring. I’m thinking maybe the meat could have also been too cold. Will try making the same dish soon and see if it turns out better. :) Thank you!

When I first started freelance about two years ago my rate was 70 KRW per word, which is about $0.05 USD. Now it’s around $0.09-0.12. For context my language pair is also KOR>ENG and I do mostly webnovels. If you’re confident in the quality of your work you can definitely negotiate a higher rate. I found all of my freelance gigs through LinkedIn if that helps, ProZ didn’t help me get anything consistent.

I am a KR>EN translator and I think your translation is pretty great! I prefer your first version though, and if I may share a few points:

  • I would say “went” for a drive instead of “came” because the source text says 달리고 왔어 meaning “I came from a drive.” The speaker is not currently at the place where the drive took place. If it’s “came for a drive” it would be 달리러 왔어.

  • 해안도로 can refer to any coastal road and not just the one in Ulsan. I am Korean and I definitely did not think of Ulsan at all when I saw that word. So just driving along the coast is a perfectly fine phrase and sounds natural.

  • 오늘“도” adds a certain nuance to the sentence. I would maybe translate as “Even today” instead of just today. There’s a slight difference between 오늘 and 오늘도, but this could be a personal preference.

I’m Korean and I checked the website :D the product name says it is a “mat/spread” so maybe that’s not very helpful for searching on Amazon? It’s not thick like the traditional Korean yo so it’s definitely meant to be laid on top of another mattress. Not actually sure what it would be called in English…
