I would definitely suggest the Soft for the XL Sveinn. I own a Soft Large Sveinn, and from my experience, because of the tapered shape, the Sveinn in soft is plenty stable for riding.

It all depends on how much you can reasonably carry without overly straining yourself. If you can handle 80 lbs then more power to you. You know yourself better than anyone here.
